Physician Assistant – Cardiothoracic Surgery JOB OVERVIEW • Job Title: Physician Assistant – Cardiothoracic Surgery • Job Type: Locum Tenens • Location: Cleveland, OH • Service Setting: Inpatient/Outpatient • Coverage Type: Clinical + Call • Coverage Period: 01/30/2026 – Ongoing • Clinical Shift Schedule: Day shifts 7:00a – 3:30p with weekday coverage as needed • On-Call Shift Schedule: 24-hour call required including weekends and holidays • Call Type: Beeper • Call Ratio: Approximately one weekday call and one weekend call (Friday through Sunday) COVERAGE DATES • Start date: January 30, 2026 • Expected duration: Minimum of 6 months, ongoing need not guaranteed PATIENT INFORMATION • Patient Demographics: Adult patients • Admissions: Cardiac and thoracic surgery admissions • Rounding: Required including weekends and holidays • Phone Consults: As required • Case Mix: Cardiothoracic surgical patients including cardiac and thoracic cases FACILITY INFORMATION • EMR System: Epic • Office Equipment Available: Standard cardiothoracic surgical and ICU equipment • Specialty Backup Available: Cardiothoracic surgeons on site • Support Staff Available: Two cardiac surgeons, one thoracic surgeon, and five Physician Assistants • Reason for Coverage: Supplemental locum coverage PRIVILEGES & COMPLIANCE • Hospital Privileges Required: Yes • NPDB Required: Yes, required at time of presentation • Background Requirement: Clean background required COMPENSATION & BENEFITS • Travel, Lodging, and Malpractice Insurance: Not specified REQUIRED PROCEDURES • First and second assist in cardiac and thoracic surgical procedures • Thoracic procedures including robotic, VATS, and open thoracotomy • Cardiac procedures including CABG, AVR, MVR, ascending aneurysms, and dissections • Endoscopic saphenous vein harvesting using Hemopro • Open radial and endoradial artery harvesting preferred • ICU and step-down patient management • Temporary pacing wire removal • IABP manipulation and removal • Chest tube sclerosis JOB REQUIREMENTS • Licenses: Active Ohio Physician Assistant license required; facility not willing to license • DEA: Active DEA required • CSR: Ohio CSR required • Certifications: BLS and ACLS required • Experience: Extensive experience in cardiac and thoracic surgery including ICU and step-down care • Other Qualifications: Proficiency with Epic EMR; flexibility to cover multiple hospitals within a 15-minute drive; local candidates preferred DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES • Assist cardiothoracic surgeons in the operating room as first or second assist • Manage preoperative and postoperative cardiothoracic surgery patients • Provide ICU and step-down care for cardiac and thoracic patients • Perform required procedures in accordance with granted privileges • Participate in weekday, weekend, and holiday rounding • Provide 24-hour call coverage as scheduled • Document patient care accurately and timely in Epic

Requirements

Active Ohio Physician Assistant license required; facility not willing to license
Active DEA required
Ohio CSR required
BLS and ACLS required
Extensive experience in cardiac and thoracic surgery including ICU and step-down care
Proficiency with Epic EMR
Flexibility to cover multiple hospitals within a 15-minute drive
Clean background required
NPDB Required
