About The Position

The Section Chief of Anesthesia will report directly to the Fredericksburg Health Care Center (FxHCC) Director of Clinical Services. The incumbent should be an anesthesiologist with regional anesthesia experience. The incumbent will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the general anesthesia pool to include any float anesthesiologists. VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification) Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting

Requirements

  • Anesthesiologist with regional anesthesia experience
  • 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory

Responsibilities

  • Develop policies and guidelines relating to general anesthesia section.
  • Evaluate and recommend privileges for anesthesiologists and participate in the OPPE/FPPE section process
  • Discuss anesthesia and pain management events and participates in Quality Assurance/Quality Insurance evaluations and set processes to improve patient safety and standard operating procedures
  • Develop anesthesia safety rules that follow regulations and standards regarding the safe administration of anesthetics
  • Participate as a member of Leadership committee(s) to determine the future development of the Anesthesia section
  • Assure staff availability
  • Assists with Scheduling and leave determination to promote best functionality and performance of the anesthetizing locations
  • Assure compliance with medication protocols adherence and controlled substance inspection procedures (CSIP)
  • Develop fiscally sound plans for necessary anesthesia equipment and personnel to provide services in all locations as well as evaluate proposals for section expansion
  • Act as the direct supervisor of all anesthesiologists, Chief Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA), medical instrument techs, physician assistants and administrative staff
  • Clearly communicate new policies, departmental section goals with the staff
  • Openly communicate any issues with FxHCC Leadership
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
