About The Position

A Physical Therapist Assistant - Outpatient Specialist carries out an individualized program for patients with acute and chronic health conditions to maximize their functional goals. The Physical Therapist Assistant - Outpatient Specialist works in the outpatient setting. In addition to duties of a Physical Therapist Assistant, this position is also qualified via certification or internal requirements as determined by therapy leadership to treat patients populations of a specified clinic specialization. The clinic specialties shall align with RHS therapy strategic initiatives and ultimately determined by therapy leadership, but examples include aquatics, lymphedema, pelvic floor, neurology, and sports.

Requirements

  • Program Graduate, Physical Therapist Assistant Program (Required)
  • License Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) - Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) Upon Hire(Required)
  • CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) within 30 Days(Required)

Nice To Haves

  • 3-4 years Healthcare experience (Preferred)
  • APTA specialty certification, if applicable, or meets internal requirements as determined by therapy leadership for defined clinic specialty. Upon Hire (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Follows the plan of care and performs PTA procedure as allowed by referral to aid in restoring function, improving mobility, relieving pain, and preventing or limiting permanent physical disabilities.
  • Perform services planned, delegated, and supervised by the Therapist.
  • Assesses patients' needs and status by analyzing evaluated data and interprets information, identifying age-specific needs and providing care accordingly for the general population and within their defined clinic specialty.
  • Assists and participates in the training and support of all team members, volunteers, and students.
  • Records patients' progress and reports the results of each treatment to the physical therapists/specialist.
  • Treats patients through exercise, manual therapy, gait and balance training and other therapeutic interventions.
  • Provides patient education on interventions.
