About The Position

Harborview Medical Center – Outpatient Physical Therapy has an outstanding opportunity for a PHYSICAL THERAPY ASSISTANT 2 (60% FTE) WORK SCHEDULE - PART-TIME; 60% FTE; 24 hours per week - Day Shift PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Under general supervision, provides physical therapy services as directed by plan of care established by primary therapist. This will include progression of treatment, and patient and family education. Collaborate with other disciplines as appropriate to coordinate continuity of patient care. Implement treatment programs, which include the use of physical agents, manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, and functional training. Integral to this professional's work is the treatment of an expanded patient caseload including patients with such complex problems as multiple disabilities, acute multi-trauma and/or complex orthopedic and musculoskeletal injuries or conditions, including pre-operative and post-operative conditions affecting the spine and/or peripheral joints. Physical Therapist Assistant 2 assists Physical Therapists to collect data using standard tests and measurements. Physical Therapist Assistant 2 participates in clinical education. Performs all duties of a Physical Therapist Assistant, providing treatments to patients with complex problems such as multiple disabilities, acute multi-trauma and/or complex orthopedic and musculoskeletal injuries or conditions. Carries out and assists with implementation of treatment programs which include the use of physical agents, therapeutic exercise on patients with problems such as multiple disabilities, complex musculoskeletal impairments, and/or acute multi-trauma. Makes suggestions for program based on knowledge, experience, and published evidence. Document appropriately and accurately with regard to content and timeliness (following the policies of the Physical Therapy department and Harborview Medical Center). Actively participates in, and takes responsibility for, maintaining a personally, as well as clinic-wide, productive schedule. Collaborates with supervising physical therapists to provide coordinated, accessible physical therapy care/services. Understands the current Patients are First expectations and standards that apply to the Harborview staff. Utilizes staff and treatment resources appropriately. Assists physical therapists in transitioning patients to next level of care in a timely and appropriate manner when have met goals or plateaued. Collaborates with the physical therapists to provide the best care to patients. Participate in the supervision of physical therapist assistant students. Participate in operational aspects of the department, maintain performance improvement activities within the department and participates in CQI activities. Participate in all infection control, departmental equipment training, organizational safety and fire safety programs Assist with restoration of patient functioning to prevent disability following injury, disease or physical disability. Provides physical therapy treatments to patients with complex medical problems. Assist patients to reach their maximum performance and level of functioning, while learning to live within the limits of their capabilities. Document appropriately and accurately with regard to content and timeliness (following the policies of the Physical Therapy department and UW Medical Center). Ensure that patient charges are accurate and entered on a timely basis. Participate in the supervision of physical therapist assistant students. Assists in the clinical education activities of the physical therapy department. Assists with orientation of new physical therapist assistants, hospital assistants and volunteers. Participate in operational aspects of the department, maintain performance improvement activities within the department and participates in CQI activities. Participate in all infection control, departmental equipment training, organizational safety and fire safety programs.

Requirements

  • Licensed as a Physical Therapist Assistant with the WA State Department of Health upon hire.
  • An Associate of Science Degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited program that includes patient treatment affiliation.
  • Eighteen months of experience as Physical Therapist Assistant 1, or equivalent.
  • Physical ability to move patients and equipment.
  • Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
