About The Position

Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Special Education, Principal or designee, this therapist position will plan instruction, teach, motivate, inspire, and assess students. This teaching position will promote a high-quality education program that reflects state standards.

Requirements

  • Valid Washington State Educational Staff Associate certificate, no later than the first contracted day of the 2025/2026 school year, with appropriate endorsements as required by law and regulations.
  • Required to have a School Physical Therapist endorsement.
  • Successful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprint Clearance.
  • Valid Washington State driver’s license or evidence of mobility.
  • Proof of Immunization (if born 1/1/57 or later).
  • I-9 Employment Eligibility in compliance with the Immigrations Reform and Control Act.
  • Completion of all district-required trainings within thirty (30) calendar days from hire date.

Responsibilities

  • Provide physical therapy instruction to students eligible for special education services.
  • Design and implement treatment programs to include direct and indirect therapy and consultation with school staff, parents, and outside agencies as appropriate on adaptations needed to facilitate improved performance in the classroom/school.
  • Will appropriately procure and manage equipment within the school environment.
  • Screen and evaluate children using appropriate instruments, administer tests, complete observations and written reports which state the findings and collaborate on the development of the child’s educational plans in accordance with Washington Administrative Codes (WACs).
  • Participate as a member of the multi-disciplinary team and the individualized education program team to contribute evaluation findings and collaborate on the child’s educational plan.
  • Maintain appropriate data on students to document and determine current levels of performance, progress and effectiveness of therapy.
  • Provide staff training in working with equipment and handling safe transfers.
  • Work cooperatively to accomplish the goals of the Local Education Agency (LEA).
  • Adhere to the ethical standard and codes of the profession and to the established rules, regulations, and laws governing special education programs and physical therapy services.
  • Complete and submit necessary paperwork efficiently and on time.
  • Be trained, meet certification and maintain a high level of competence in restraint and de-escalation techniques determined by the district to minimize possible injury to students, self or other staff members.
  • Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • The employee shall maintain a consistent presence at the assigned work site(s) and work the regular work hours specified by the contract.
  • Professionally interact with colleagues, members of the public, and students.
  • Comply with and uphold all district policies and all applicable laws.
  • Fulfill other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
