About The Position

The Physical Therapist provides evaluation, consultation, and therapeutic services to students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This position supports students in improving mobility, strength, coordination, and overall physical functioning to help them participate as fully as possible in educational and daily activities within the school environment.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) or Master's Degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited program.
  • Current Pennsylvania Physical Therapy license required.
  • Compassionate and patient with a commitment to serving students with special needs.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Must pass all required background checks and training requirements before employment.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold professional standards in accordance with school policies.
  • Attend required staff training sessions and meetings as needed.
  • Must be able to physically engage in therapy sessions and school activities.
  • The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk, and hear both in person and by telephone; frequent use of equipment that includes repetitive motions and computer eye fatigue.
  • Frequently required to reach and lift to provide assistance to students with therapy activities with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Ability to demonstrate exercises and assist students with positioning or mobility.
  • Vocal communication is required for expressing, exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word, directing; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate students to determine physical therapy needs and develop appropriate treatment plans.
  • Provide individualized physical therapy services to students in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Implement therapeutic exercises and interventions to improve mobility, strength, balance, coordination, and motor development.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other staff to support student participation in classroom and school activities.
  • Provide recommendations for adaptive equipment, positioning, and mobility supports.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, progress notes, and required reports in compliance with school and regulatory guidelines.
  • Communicate regularly with staff and families regarding student progress and therapy goals.
  • Participate in IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team discussions as needed.
