This position assists patients/residents/clients with therapy activities and exercises scheduled in a treatment plan, under the supervision of a physical therapist, to improve their quality of life and ability to perform daily activities. The role involves providing, monitoring, and recording therapy services to patients/residents/clients with physical, cognitive, and developmental impairments, adhering to standard concepts, practices, and procedures. The physical therapist assistant selects, implements, and modifies therapeutic activities and interventions consistent with competency levels, patient goals, and state licensure requirements. They contribute to the therapy process by exchanging information and providing documentation to the physical therapist regarding patient responses and communications during intervention. The assistant is responsible for being knowledgeable about targeted physical therapy outcomes and providing information and documentation related to outcome achievement, while following accepted clinical practice guidelines. Depending on facility needs and assigned locations, the role may focus on patients receiving intervention in post-acute, long-term care, and home health care environments.
