About The Position

Physical Education Teacher Guadalupe Centers Charter Schools (GCCS) serves more than 1,600 students from PreK–12 and is a free, open-enrollment public charter school system located in Kansas City, Missouri. Over 97% of our students identify as Latinx, and many are bilingual or English learners. Our network includes Guadalupe Centers Elementary School, Guadalupe Centers Middle School, and Guadalupe Centers High School. GCCS grew out of Guadalupe Centers’ educational programs — part of the longest continuously operating agency serving the Latinx community in the United States since 1919. This role engages students in a variety of physical activities, including individual and team sports, while teaching proper techniques, safety, and sportsmanship. The teacher also fosters social-emotional development through collaboration, teamwork, and positive interactions among students.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education, Elementary Education, Secondary Education, or a related field.
  • Valid Missouri teaching certification in Physical Education (K–12 preferred).
  • Meets Missouri “Highly Qualified” requirements.
  • Ability to actively participate in and demonstrate physical activities, including sports and fitness exercises.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and remain active for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 45 pounds.
  • Ability to supervise and engage students in indoor and outdoor environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in an urban school setting preferred.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment that promotes student participation and well-being.
  • Plan and deliver standards-aligned instruction in physical education, including fitness, movement, health concepts, rhythms/dance, and individual and team sports.
  • Demonstrate and teach proper techniques, rules, and strategies to ensure safe and effective participation in physical activities.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of students, including individualized and small group support when appropriate.
  • Establish and maintain clear expectations for student behavior to ensure a structured and productive environment.
  • Assess student progress and provide feedback on physical, social, and skill development.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, staff, and families to support student success, including participation in IEP and 504 meetings as needed.
  • Supervise students during physical activities and ensure adherence to safety protocols.
  • Participate in professional development and ongoing learning opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate records and fulfill all professional responsibilities promptly.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
