About The Position

The Photographer position involves technical services work with the production of still and motion pictures, complex graphic designs, desktop publishing and a variety of presentation materials for governmental purposes. The worker directs and/or performs the production, processing and distribution of a variety of printed photographic and electronic media. The work often requires the application of special photographic or photo reproduction methods and techniques. A variety of specialized software and electronic media and equipment are often utilized. Work is performed under limited supervision.

  • Three (3) years of education, experience, or training in photography.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • The successful candidate must pass a National Criminal Background check, which may include fingerprinting.
  • KNOWLEDGE of the equipment, techniques, and materials used in photography, videography, and graphics.
  • KNOWLEDGE of the principles used in photography and videography to produce publicity, technical, education, and informational materials and products.
  • KNOWLEDGE of photographic theories of design.
  • KNOWLEDGE of specialized graphic design and imaging software.
  • KNOWLEDGE of OSHA safety standards for personal protective equipment.
  • KNOWLEDGE of principles of graphic design to produce informational and promotional materials and products.
  • ABILITY to operate and care for a variety of cameras, audio, video, computer, and presentation equipment.
  • ABILITY to mix and use photographic chemicals for processing films and paper.
  • ABILITY to operate other photographic equipment such as film processors and enlargers.
  • ABILITY to train others in the use of photographic and presentation equipment.
  • ABILITY to edit and crop films and photographs.
  • ABILITY to maintain records of photographic activities and expenditures.
  • ABILITY to design effective publications and multimedia presentations.

Responsibilities

  • Create and prepare photographic images to display in a variety of published and electronic media.
  • Create a variety of complex graphic design art for print and digital media, design and create layouts, and combine and manipulate text and graphic elements of publications and materials to create and produce effective informational and promotional materials and products.
  • Utilize specialized graphic design, publishing, and imaging software such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, PageMaker, and InDesign, and a variety of hardware such as flatbed, slide and negative scanners, plotters, printers, and graphics tablets to accomplish tasks and projects.
  • Operate and utilize a variety of audio/visual equipment such as digital, 35mm, medium and large format cameras, video cameras and recorders, computer, overhead and slide projectors, public address systems, microphones, amplifiers, mixers, and audio recorders to provide support and technical assistance to the Department.
  • Meet and confer with customers to ascertain their requirements and provide information and recommendations regarding publication and product design.
  • Work with customers on print requests.
  • Occasionally plan, coordinate, and shoot photographic and video essays to document a variety of programs, conferences, events, projects, and procedures, and to provide institutional program publicity to inform public and department employees.
  • Assist Imaging Specialists in reviewing, evaluating, and requesting recommendations on imaging hardware and software, media and materials, and print and delivery quality standards to meet the needs of the Department and to ensure effective unit operation.
