About The Position

Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s photographer/video producer documents the Garden, its collections, and its work and uses visual media to tell the Garden’s stories and support visitor engagement. Job responsibilities encompass asset management, still photography, video, post-production, and creative support, and the successful candidate will demonstrate strong aptitude and experience in all areas.

Requirements

  • Confident self-starter able to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Proficiency with high-quality digital photography techniques, shooting and editing video, and recording and editing professional-quality sound
  • Excellent eye and demonstrated sense for visual storytelling including subject matter, composition, and pacing
  • Fluency with Adobe software suite including Photoshop and Adobe Premiere Pro
  • Agile, detail-oriented approach to projects; ability to meet deadlines
  • Command of English language and ability to follow house style
  • Ability to cover weekend and/or evening events on occasion

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with garden plants and botanical nomenclature
  • Understanding of digital file organization and metadata best practices; experience with archiving systems and DAMS

Responsibilities

  • Produce creative and engaging photography assets and video content in order to share mission-based stories with online audiences and foster engagement.
  • Document the Garden’s spaces and visitors, horticultural collections, and programs and events.
  • Maintain digital image and video assets, including maintaining asset metadata, writing descriptions that follow house style and voice, and managing closed-captioning.
  • Using institutional resources, accurately identify and label plant images.
  • Fulfill research requests from colleagues and process and archive assets from other staff.
  • Manage work by external photographers and video producers, including monitoring technical specs, conveying brand standards, and managing asset transfers and archiving.
  • Oversee department’s photography and video equipment.
  • Maintain subject releases and licenses/contracts for outside work.
  • Upload content to the Garden’s website in partnership with others on the Digital team.
  • Perform other related duties or special projects as directed.
