About The Position

The Photographer/Video Producer at West Virginia University produces photography and videography to tell the story of our vibrant community through our many channels, including social media, web, email, print, and others. As a content creator on the Storytelling team in the Strategic Communications & Marketing division, the ideal candidate will have a good eye, an ability to work collaboratively as well as independently, and be excited about finding and telling stories visually. The Photographer/Video Producer should be an experienced expert, capable of producing creative and striking imagery that engages our audiences. Our content creators work closely with our writers and social media team and often collaborate on projects. This is an exciting time for the SCM Storytelling team – we are capturing the academic, research, outreach and student experiences at WVU and bringing the institution to life with our stories. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • A minimum of two (2) years of related professional experience
  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.

  • Demonstrated excellence in photography
  • Demonstrated excellence in videography

  • Demonstrated experience in rapid delivery of content
  • Demonstrated experience with sound editing, lighting, and other multimedia tools
  • Demonstrated experience with Adobe software (e.g. Lightroom, Photoshop, Premiere Pro)
  • Demonstrated ability in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships
  • Experience in organizing tasks, documents and materials with efficiency and accuracy
  • Experience in managing multiple projects with competing priorities
  • Self-starter and can lead independently and proactively
  • Ability to adhere to WVU brand guidelines
  • Ability to take note of changing technology trends as it impacts visual storytelling

Nice To Haves

  • Part 107C drone pilot certification is a plus but not required.
  • The ideal candidate is an expert in photography and video. However, candidates who have attained excellence in just one area (and are ready to learn the other) are encouraged to apply and will be considered.
  • Experience with After Effects is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Capture high-level photography.
  • Develop high-quality video projects, including conducting interviews, shooting b-roll, utilizing a variety of visual techniques.
  • Edit video projects at an expert level, aligning these projects to overall project goals.
  • Operate visual equipment at an expert level (e.g. cameras, audio equipment, lighting, studio setups, green screens, drones, gimbals).
  • Identify ways to build WVU's visibility and enhance its reputation through innovative use of photography, videography and other visual mediums/platforms.
  • Maintain an understanding of industry trends and innovative creative executions through constant research. Consider how the University could utilize these and offer them up as part of project discussions.
  • Develop unique visual work that aligns with the established WVU brand guidelines and style.
  • Understand and utilize available programs and tools (Lightroom, Premiere, PhotoMechanic, SmugMug, etc.)
  • Develop a constant flow of campus photography and videography to be utilized in a variety of ways (e.g. outdoor campus scenes, classroom/lab immersive content, etc.).
  • Work with other teams within the division: Marketing & Brand Strategy; Communications; Strategic Priorities; Operations.
  • Fully understand the University’s mission, vision, values, goals and brand.
  • Attend a variety of assignments and events for photo and video assets that align with project goals; this could include evening and weekend work.
  • Develop strong relationships with other visual experts on campus and within the unit.
