Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited phlebotomy/medical assistant program with clinical rotations or previous phlebotomy experience.
  • OR.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology/Clinical Laboratory Science, Associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technician, with knowledge of phlebotomy practices.
  • Certification from a nationally recognized agency in Phlebotomy, Medical Laboratory Assistant, Medical Laboratory Science, or Medical Laboratory Technology.
  • Clinical laboratory experience as a Phlebotomist, Medical Technologist, Clinical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Laboratory Scientist, or Medical Laboratory Technician within a clinical laboratory.
  • Current knowledge of Phlebotomy principles.
  • Overall knowledge of lab operations, including safety, problem-solving, specimen collection, and specimen processing.
  • Shows evidence of leadership skills in managing people.
  • Knowledge of department shift operations.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Problem-solving and conflict resolution.

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years’ experience as a phlebotomist or in a technical laboratory position.

Responsibilities

  • The Phlebotomy/MLA Supervisor functions as a laboratory professional who assumes responsibility for leading the Phlebotomy and/or Medical Lab Assistant laboratory department.
  • With direct oversight of staff who perform specimen collection duties.
  • This position also oversees training, competencies, scheduling, and operations within the phlebotomy and/or MLA department.
  • At times, this role might be expected to perform specimen collections based on the hospital/laboratory need; venipuncture, capillary draws, urine collection instruction, and specimen culture collection instruction as assigned by their supervisor.
