About The Position

The Phlebotomy Adjunct Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in phlebotomy techniques, covering and ensuring safety protocols, and instilling professional standards to students enrolled in the Phlebotomy course. The instructor ensures that students (1) develop the knowledge and skills necessary to perform venipuncture and related procedures safely and effectively, (2) gain an understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the circulatory system, (3) become competent in laboratory operations-including safety, quality control, and proper documentation-and (4) are prepared for potential certification and entry-level employment in healthcare settings.

Requirements

  • Current certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (PBT) through the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC).
  • Minimum of one year of full-time experience in a hospital laboratory.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in venipuncture and specimen collection techniques.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and instructional skills.
  • Effective computer and word processing skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations and foster an inclusive learning environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous teaching or training experience in a healthcare or academic setting.
  • Familiarity with electronic learning platforms and simulation technology.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver engaging didactic, laboratory, and clinical instruction in phlebotomy techniques, specimen collection, infection control, and patient interaction.
  • Prepare lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments aligned with course objectives, program goals, and industry standards.
  • Provide hands-on training in venipuncture, capillary puncture, and specimen handling in compliance with OSHA and CLIA regulations.
  • Evaluate student performance through practical skills assessments, written examinations, and ongoing observation.
  • Maintain accurate student records, grades, and attendance in accordance with institutional policies, and uphold confidentiality per FERPA requirements.
  • Create and maintain a safe, positive, and professional learning environment by enforcing program and institutional policies and modeling ethical behavior and patient safety.
  • Stay current with best practices, regulatory requirements, and advancements in phlebotomy and laboratory procedures.
  • Participate in program development, curriculum review, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain scheduled office hours to ensure accessibility to students and colleagues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
