About The Position

This position involves performing phlebotomy duties and all routine technical procedures in accordance with CLIA '88 technical protocols and quality control principles. The role assists in the delivery of primary health care services and patient care management, encompassing patient care, laboratory phlebotomy, and administrative tasks to ensure a safe, high-quality, and positive environment for patients, families, and staff. Requirements

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association (AHA) required within 30 days of hire.
  • Valid Driver's License – Illinois Secretary of State (ILSOS).
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Phlebotomy experience.
  • High-quality CPR and AED training for healthcare professionals (BLS AHA).
  • Prior phlebotomy experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the delivery of primary health care services and patient care management.
  • Responsible for patient care, laboratory phlebotomy, and administrative tasks, ensuring a safe, high-quality, and positive environment for patients, families, and staff.
  • Collect and prepare blood samples using a consistent patient identification system.
  • Assure reliability and safety of blood products utilizing appropriate collection and processing procedures to avoid inadequate specimens.
  • Interact with patients, families, visitors, and staff in a positive manner.
  • Assist provider and staff with obtaining basic vital information to prepare patients for examination after completing Vital Signs Competency. (Does not include immunizations, dispensing medication, or assisting in invasive procedures).
  • Assist staff with difficult phlebotomy situations.
  • Provide accurate, timely documentation in the patient’s electronic health record (EHR) using standardized workflows.
  • Perform and document quality control, instrument maintenance, and troubleshooting as required by CLIA, CAP, and COLA.
  • Communicate laboratory results in a timely manner to appropriate health care personnel.
  • Demonstrate understanding of policies in the Procedure Manual, Lab Manual, Safety Manual, and CLIA regulations.
  • Provide information to appropriate regulatory agencies, such as the health department.
  • Facilitate and support relationships between providers and with ancillary services.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to patient and workplace safety by preventing errors, accidents, and infections.
  • Report all safety hazards, incidents, and potential improvements to management.
  • Assume responsibility and accountability for the quality and quantity of service delivered.
  • Maintain competency through regular reviews and proficiency testing.
