About The Position

JOB SUMMARY The Phlebotomist is responsible for collecting all#patient specimens from clinic patients in accordance with established procedures. Responsible for distributing specimens to appropriate areas within St. Luke#s laboratory. Responsible for general clerical duties.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Skill in phlebotomy.
  • Knowledge of phlebotomy collection processes, Universal Precautions, generally accepted safety practices.
  • Ability to accurately collect and process lab specimens and maintain sample report identity using patient name and identification number through sample receipt, processing, and reporting.
  • Ability to maintain accurate and complete records and maintain strict confidentiality with regard to patient information.
  • Ability to effectively greet the public, work well with patients and employees and to communicate effectively with all individuals.
  • Ability to follow directions and perform tasks outlined in procedure.
  • Ability to exercise judgment and take responsibility to maintain patient health and safety during specimen collection.
  • Ability to organize work and meet deadlines.
  • Able to write legibly, see, hear, read and speak English.
  • READING - Intermediate: Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • WRITING - Intermediate: Ability to write routine reports, correspondence, or procedures.
  • SPEAKING - Basic: Ability to speak simple sentences.
  • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS - Basic Skills: Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10#s and 100#s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • REASONING ABILITY - Intermediate Skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • AGE SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES -#Skilled at assessment and knowledgeable of growth and development. Provides appropriate care respective to the ages of the patients served per clinical environment.
  • Color Vision.
  • Prolonged, extensive, considerable standing, walking, and bending.
  • Assists with lifting and moving patients, supplies and equipment.
  • Considerable reaching, stooping, kneeling and crouching.
  • Lifts objects up to thirty-five (35) pounds in weight; work more than eight (8) hours but less than twelve (12) hour shifts.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduated from accredited phlebotomy program.
  • Six (6) months of phlebotomy experience.
  • Certification as phlebotomist.
