Phlebotomist (FM)

The Phlebotomist draws blood and obtains various specimens from patients with minimum discomfort and pain for the performance of clinical laboratory analyses. Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Experience preferred; but not required
Responsibilities
- Maintain accuracy in all work
- Complete tasks on time and per any deadlines
- label specimens with a high degree of accuracy
- ensure proper tubes are used for each blood test ordered
- Verify the identity of every patient before collecting any samples
- identification and sample collection using paper orders in the event of an interruption in computer service
- Be aware of Medicare guidelines, send-out test requirements, and special tests
- Explain Medicare ABNs to patients clearly and accurately
- Perform venipuncture and finger/heel stick procedures with a high degree of professionalism and concern for the patient, including a minimum of 2 sticks per encounter
- Collect nasal and throat swabs and blood cultures when needed
