About The Position

The Water/Wastewater/Environmental Technician is responsible for the operation and maintenance of site potable and purified water systems, wastewater treatment systems, and site environmental management systems in accordance with New York State regulations, federal requirements, and internal quality standards. In addition, the water/wastewater/environmental technician is a member of the site facilities maintenance team and performs various facility maintenance tasks and PMs as assigned through the site work order and PM management system.

Requirements

  • NYS grade C Water system operator license
  • NYS wastewater system operator license
  • NYS 7G pesticide technician license
  • NYSDOH Backflow Tester Certification
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Team player and willing to work with minimal supervision.
  • Vocational training or 3 years work experience with water/wastewater/environmental systems
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility in adapting to changes in priorities, multiple work assignments and work conditions.
  • Able to read and interpret manufacturers’ manuals, data sheets, schematic drawings and equipment specifications.
  • Experienced with basic Microsoft Office applications. (ex. Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Use/apply basic math skills.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor, and maintain facility water systems, including: Site potable water generation and distribution USP Purified Water Reverse osmosis (RO), deionization (DI), and filtration units Backflow Preventers Cooling tower and steam boiler chemical treatment systems.
  • Perform daily monitoring, sampling, testing, and documentation to ensure compliance with USP, FDA, DOH, SRBC, and internal quality standards.
  • Troubleshoot system alarms, performance deviations, and equipment malfunctions.
  • Occasional work on Saturdays, Sundays, and Holidays is required.
  • Operate and maintain wastewater treatment facility and systems.
  • Conduct daily inspections, sampling, and testing to ensure compliance with: NYSDEC SPDES permit requirements EPA environmental regulation
  • Maintain accurate logs, records, and reports for monthly regulatory reporting, and internal/external audits.
  • Support facility environmental programs, including: Hazardous Waste Program Non-Hazardous Waste Program 90 day and satellite waste area management Biohazardous waste program Recyclables program Universal Waste Program (Batteries, Lamps, e-waste, etc.) Tank inspection program
  • Collect and dispose of all site waste.
  • Schedule, support, oversee hazardous and non-hazardous waste shipments.
  • Participate as a trained member of the site spill response team.
  • Assist with site training, internal audits, regulatory inspections, and corrective action implementation.
  • Performs routine PMs and hands-on repairs to equipment.
  • Executes general building maintenance work orders.
  • Authors/updates/revises PM documentation and change controls.
