About The Position

POSITION SUMMARY DEFINITION Under supervision, to draw blood; to perform routine clinical laboratory and clerical work; and to do other duties as required. CLASS CHARACTERISTICS Positions in this class prepare and process laboratory specimens according to standardized procedures and operate laboratory equipment that does not require technical judgment, decisions, or direct determination of test results.

Requirements

  • Satisfactory completion of phlebotomy course approved by the State of California.
  • Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
  • Possession of a valid Phlebotomy Certificate issued by the State of California.
  • BLS Certification (AHA Only)
  • Knowledge of Common laboratory terminology.
  • Knowledge of The preparation of solutions, and stains.
  • Knowledge of Routine laboratory methods and procedures including safety procedures for working with patients.
  • Knowledge of Standard laboratory phlebotomy procedures and equipment.
  • Knowledge of Laboratory Information Systems.
  • Ability to draw blood from patients.
  • Ability to manage emergency or crisis situations; requires judgement/action which could result in undesirable patient outcomes.
  • Ability to Learn elementary laboratory methods, procedures, and measurements.
  • Ability to Performs basic phlebotomy techniques on all age groups.
  • Ability to Keep accurate records.
  • Ability to Follow oral and written directions.
  • Ability to Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of one year experience as Phlebotomist in a hospital or healthcare environment preferred.
  • Completion of a certified training program with required practical application of phlebotomy techniques on all age groups.
