About The Position

Position Summary: The Phlebotomist Outpatient obtains and prepares specimens for analysis and performs various screening tests in an ambulatory setting. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • American Heart Association BLS required within six (6) months of hire
  • Demonstrates sound judgment, patience, and maintains a professional demeanor at all times
  • Exercises tact, discretion, sensitivity, and maintains confidentiality
  • Performs essential job functions successfully in a busy and stressful environment
  • Learns current and new computer applications and office equipment utilized at Bozeman Health
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Analyzes, organizes, and prioritizes work while meeting multiple deadlines
  • This role requires regular and sustained attendance.
  • The position may necessitate working beyond a standard 40-hour workweek, including weekends and after-hours shifts.
  • On-call work may be required to respond promptly to organizational, patient, or employee needs.

Nice To Haves

  • ASCP or equivalent Phlebotomy Certification
  • Associate Degree in Science Related Field
  • Previous healthcare experience as a Phlebotomist, Medical Assistant, Patient Care Tech, EMT

Responsibilities

  • Verifies test requisitions / orders; follows up with ordering provider if there are discrepancies.
  • Verifies patient by reading patient identification.
  • Follows proper specimen labeling techniques.
  • Obtains blood specimens by performing venipunctures, heel sticks, and other collection techniques.
  • Maintains specimen integrity by using aseptic technique, following department procedures; observing isolation procedures.
  • Performs EKGs and transmits results.
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
  • Resolves unusual test orders by contacting the physician, pathologist, nursing station, or reference laboratory; referring unresolved orders back to the originator for further clarification; notifying supervisor of unresolved orders.
  • In addition to the essential functions of the job listed below, employees must have on-time completion of all required education as assigned per DNV requirements, Bozeman Health policy, and other registry requirements.
