About The Position

At Father Joe’s Villages, philanthropy plays a vital role in sustaining programs that support individuals and families experiencing homelessness. The Office of Philanthropy builds meaningful partnerships with donors who are passionate about advancing our mission to end homelessness, one life at a time. Reporting to the Senior Director of Philanthropy, Individual Giving, the Philanthropy Officer, Mid-Level Giving plays an important role in expanding philanthropic support by building relationships with donors who contribute between $2,500 and $25,000 annually. This role manages a portfolio of mid-level donors and prospects, guiding them through all phases of the donor engagement cycle—from identification and cultivation to solicitation and stewardship. The Philanthropy Officer collaborates with colleagues across the organization to strengthen donor engagement, align fundraising strategies with organizational priorities, and support a culture of philanthropy that advances Father Joe’s Villages’ mission. This role is ideal for a relationship-driven professional who enjoys building authentic connections with donors while developing strategies that increase philanthropic investment and long-term engagement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, business administration, nonprofit management, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Minimum three (3) years of professional experience in nonprofit fundraising, donor relations, development, advancement services, or similar relationship-building roles.
  • Experience managing donor relationships or engagement strategies that support fundraising or philanthropic initiatives.
  • This role requires regular driving between worksites and client locations. A valid driver’s license and the ability to meet organizational driving standards are required.
  • Working knowledge of nonprofit fundraising practices, including donor cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and moves management.
  • Experience using donor databases or fundraising software to manage donor records and track engagement activity (experience with Raiser’s Edge preferred).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with project management or collaboration tools (such as Asana) is helpful.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to create donor correspondence, proposals, and engagement materials.
  • Ability to build meaningful relationships with donors and community stakeholders through thoughtful and personalized engagement.
  • Ability to manage a portfolio of donors while balancing multiple priorities, timelines, and engagement strategies.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills to coordinate donor outreach, events, and stewardship activities.
  • Ability to analyze donor information and develop strategies that support donor retention and increased giving.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and actively cultivate a portfolio of up to 250 mid-level donors and prospects contributing between $2,500 and $25,000 annually.
  • Develop and implement personalized engagement strategies that strengthen donor relationships and encourage increased philanthropic support.
  • Guide donors through the full donor engagement cycle, including identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Set individual goals and engagement plans for donors based on giving history, interests, and potential capacity to support organizational priorities.
  • Conduct donor outreach through meetings, phone calls, written communications, tours, and cultivation experiences.
  • Travel locally to attend donor meetings, stewardship events, and cultivation activities, including driving to off-site locations as needed.
  • Build authentic, trust-based relationships that encourage long-term donor involvement and investment.
  • Partner with stewardship and communications colleagues to develop donor-centered impact reports, updates, and engagement materials.
  • Collaborate with philanthropy team members to coordinate donor engagement opportunities, events, and cultivation strategies.
  • Maintain accurate donor records and activity tracking in the organization’s donor database using moves management practices.
  • Regularly report on donor engagement strategies, activity goals, and fundraising progress to the Senior Director of Philanthropy, Individual Giving.
  • Support donor meetings, tours, and stewardship activities in collaboration with philanthropy colleagues.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support the success of the philanthropy team.
