Job Summary: Shapes the strategy for advancing philanthropy that aligns with both the system and market strategic plan and vision. Partners with executives in fostering a culture that understands, appreciates, supports and advances giving while demonstrating alignment with Adventist Health’s mission, values and overarching priorities. Leads the foundations to cultivate charitable support for priorities to advance well-being, care, consumer, mission and other priorities. In partnership with the Chief Philanthropy Officer and the market president(s), designs and implements a comprehensive fund development program to foster annual, major and planned gifts from individual, corporate and foundation donors. Ensures programs are aligned with the mission and values of Adventist Health and partners with market-based executive to ensure alignment with local priorities and community cultures. Leads a team of Foundation staff, and partners with the team, volunteer leadership, market and system leaders under the guidance of the market president(s) in generating major philanthropic support. Supervises and directs the activities of assigned personnel, ensuring team engagement and community focus.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree: Required
  • Five years' fundraising experience: Required

  • Master's Degree: Preferred
  • Ten years' fundraising experience: Preferred
  • Five years' leadership experience: Preferred
  • Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) (will need to be achieved within 12 month of employment): Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Builds a culture of philanthropy that ensures charitable giving is aligned with and advances Adventist Health’s strategic vision, values and commitments.
  • Helps the organization increase its financial support from the community to achieve strategic plan targets.
  • Ensures coordination and collaboration between multiple fund development organizations within the same service area to ensure an approach that is donor centered.
  • Prioritizes the identification, cultivation, engagement and stewardship of major donors.
  • Leverages business intelligence in the prospect and donor database to build and optimize a donor pipeline and to manage donor interactions using portfolio management processes and practices.
  • Prioritizes objective-driven visits with those who have the affinity and ability to give at an investment level.
  • Oversees appropriate and adequate tracking, acknowledgment and recognition of gifts.
  • Harnesses the power of grateful patient and family giving through proactive and strategic partnerships with select clinicians, patient experience leaders and other allies.
  • Ensures compliance with use of Protected Health Information allowable for use in fund development under HIPAA.
  • Integrates planned and blended giving strategies where appropriate to enable donors to give from assets as well as income. Anticipated strategies include giving by bequest, life insurance, retirement fund assets, stock and more.
  • Directs a robust annual giving program to drive donor acquisition, to build pipeline and to facilitate sustainable support. Anticipated strategies include employee giving, direct mail, online giving, special events and more.
  • Oversees implementation of a strategic donor communications plan to articulate the rationale for charitable support and to support donor acquisition, engagement and stewardship.
  • Collaborates with system shared services for grants identification, application and management.
  • Implements grant procedure policy with respect to budgets, reporting and maintenance of appropriate documentation of expenditures and summaries of project activities.
  • Identifies appropriate funding sources and oversees market-based efforts for the development of grant applications.
  • Demonstrates effectiveness relative to prevailing industry metrics and benchmarks with the objective to meet or exceed top quartile performance within a peer cohort.
  • Facilitates the engagement of the market president(s) for key interactions with key donors and prospective donors at key times, collaborates with the market president to stays abreast of current and emerging market strategy to effectively articulate charitable investment opportunities to donors and to facilitate partnerships with internal and external partners and stakeholders.
  • Engages community leadership volunteers through boards, councils, committees and other structures to utilize their insights, influence and access to advance philanthropy.
  • Provides structures, tools, training and support to enable sound governance and successful fulfillment of other roles and responsibilities.
  • Collaborates with the market financial officer and other partners to ensure donor contributions are directed toward valuable efforts and are utilized in compliance with donor restrictions and in alignment with donor expectations.
  • Maintains Foundation budget.
  • Develops, coordinates and administers policies related to fund development and gift acceptance.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
