Summary The Philanthropic Engagement Manager (PEM) works as a core member of the Illinois Territory team to champion a strategic and integrated approach to building relationships with constituents and donors on behalf of Breakthrough T1D. This person is responsible for raising over $5M and drives fundraising success through strategic initiatives aimed at developing a thriving mid-level donor pipeline in both individual and/or corporate donors. Their collective body of work delivers successful implementation of donor journey strategies and financial results of the assigned portfolio of donors. This individual builds strategic relationships with internal stakeholders that require regular collaboration throughout the organization. They maintain and articulate a comprehensive understanding of Breakthrough T1D’s mission strategy and actively demonstrates and cascades enterprise-wide mindsets. This individual is a visionary and motivator who effectively brings the mission to life within the community through collaboration, cultivation, inspiration, and engagement. Utilizing exceptional time management skills, they proficiently execute activities that support organizational strategies in their assigned donor portfolio to drive optimal results. As one of the top performing territories in the country, the Illinois Territory plays a vital role in the organization’s success. The Territory has 17 staff, 1 Chapter Board, and 10 events collectively driving over $27 million in total net revenue. We have a hybrid work schedule, in office two days a week and working remotely and in the field three days a week.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of relevant fundraising experience, particularly in mid-level giving, and/or corporate giving. This would preferably include emphasis on strategic planning, revenue generation, relationship maximization and stewardship, logistics, and fiscal management.
  • College degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated success in securing gifts between $5,000-$100,000; coupled with experience in working with high-net worth individuals as both donors and volunteers.
  • Record of success in achieving fundraising targets and ensuring the success of both personal and team goals
  • High degree of energy, integrity, courage, empathy, and creativity.
  • High emotional IQ.
  • Superior active listening, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
  • Superior ability to influence and deliver results through persuasive communication skills in a matrixed environment and consensus environment.
  • Detail-oriented and strong organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated competency when handling diversified assignments.
  • Excellent team player with the ability to interface with all levels of staff and volunteers.
  • Ability to leverage relationships, both externally and internally.
  • Proficient in active listening, observation, analytical, and problem recognition and solving skills.
  • Proficiency with technology to support the donor or event participant experience, specifically related to CRM platforms and business tools (Salesforce and MS Office preferred).
  • Willingness to learn while striving for excellence.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends.
  • Ability to travel up to 30% of the time.

Responsibilities

  • Personally develop a robust supporter base of mid-level corporate sponsors/donors ($100,000 and under); is accountable for sustainable year-over-year acquisition throughout the territory.
  • Manage, cultivate and solicit an assigned existing portfolio of mid-level corporate sponsors/donors ($100,000 and under).
  • Elevate corporate and foundation prospects with $100,000+ capacity to national philanthropic engagement partners to collaboratively build cultivation strategy.
  • Elevate planned giving prospects that meet defined target audience to the national philanthropic engagement partners.
  • May jointly serve on opportunity teams with national colleagues on major-level ($100,000+) prospect & donors, including as appropriate.
  • Implement stewardship strategies of mid-level corporate donors that align to program standards; ensuring they are done timely and consistently throughout the year.
  • Collaborate with key national stakeholders and utilize data trends to drive and deliver greater revenue through prioritized initiatives.
  • Consistently utilize the Philanthropic Engagement team’s moves management strategy for major, corporate, foundation and planned giving opportunities.
  • Document all donor work in CRM according to SOPs.
  • Identify, engage and leverage volunteers with prospect connections as key partners to deepen engagement and support.
  • Partner with territory and chapter leader(s) to create strategies to coach and encourage volunteer leadership to engage with staff partners to engage, cultivate, steward and solicit funding and other support from individuals, corporations, foundations, and other sources of funding where they have influence.
  • Build collaborative relationships with Leadership Giving, Corporate & Institutional Giving, Planned Giving, Marcom, Community Engagement & Strategic Initiatives, and Fundraising Programs stakeholders to elevate and enhance specific territory opportunities to increase awareness, engagement, and revenue.
  • Ensure excellence in implementation of all core strategies of philanthropic engagement work with a strong emphasis on qualification, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, retention, and upgrades.
  • Participate in monthly pipeline strategy meetings with national PE team and implement plans.
  • Partner annually with PE partners to establish budget and pipeline strategies.
  • Provide regular and consistent progress updates to territory and division leadership on pipeline and revenue progress.
  • Utilize data driven inputs to inform and partner with the national philanthropic engagement teams and additional department stakeholders as needed, to address areas of opportunity and risk.
  • Serve as a liaison to national philanthropic engagement team members in assigned content specific areas on behalf of territory.
