Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Licensed Pharmacy Technician in Florida is required.
  • Demonstration of knowledge, skills, and abilities documented on position description as demonstrated by education, work experience and/or work sample and interview.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to maintain records.
  • Knowledge of the standards and terminology used in the practice of pharmacy.
  • Ability to inventory supplies.
  • Ability to collect and analyze data and prepare reports.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work responsibilities.
  • Ability to prepare purchase requisitions.

Responsibilities

  • The incumbent in this position is expected to become familiar in the Department's reentry initiatives; display leadership skills that demonstrate the Department's commitment to reentry efforts while maintaining a professional demeanor.
  • The incumbent in this position is expected to perform other duties as necessary.
  • The incumbent in this position must spend a minimum of 75 percent of their time performing duties which involve contact with patients/inmates in a correctional or forensic facility or institution.
  • Adhere to regulatory and company compliance, including OSHA, DEA, State Board of Pharmacy, and Clinical Solutions Code of Conduct, Business Ethics, Policies and Procedures.
  • Responsible for assisting the Pharmacist in all allowable activities associated with the acquisition, preparation, and distribution of pharmaceuticals in the outpatient dispensing area.
  • Types prescription data into the pharmacy computerized profile/filing system.
  • Assists the Pharmacist in the maintenance and operation of a well-stocked pharmacy operation. Fills prescription orders and issues completed prescription orders to inmates.
  • Prepares and prepackages orders for dorms, nursing units, outside institutions, and the emergency room ensuring completeness and accuracy of delivery orders. Labels pre-packaged drugs and ensures cleanliness of work area.
  • Directly assists in the training of other Department of Corrections staff in the use of the pharmacy computer program, implementation of pharmacy HSBs (Health Service Bulletins), and any other aspect of correctional pharmacy operation.
  • Maintains pharmacy files on prescriptions, requisitions, medication logs, drug and patient information, purchase orders and other records as required by the pharmacist.
  • Assists the pharmacist in the preparation of reports and other correspondence. Operates and maintains unit does, packages and label equipment.
  • Delivers requested pharmacy products to specific areas as needed. This may include delivery of pharmacy products to the institution. May be required to pick up emergency pharmaceutical supplies from local sources and/or the institution's warehouse.
  • Communicates with other health care professional staff members ensuring the accuracy of written prescriptions. Verifies that the patient has been seen by the provider.
  • Inspects pharmaceutical inventory on a monthly basis for expired items, and obtains authorization for returning expired items with the proper paperwork.
  • Ensures that pharmacy files are up-to-date, accurate and properly stored.
