Requirements

  • Licensure as a Pharmacist in accordance with Florida Statute 465.
  • Demonstration of knowledge, skills, and abilities documented on position description as demonstrated by education, work experience and/or work sample and interview.
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, standards and terminology used in the practice of pharmacy.
  • Knowledge of drug properties and usage including the effects of drug interactions.
  • Ability to administer a pharmacy or a section of a pharmacy.
  • Ability to compound and dispense pharmaceutical drugs, medications, and supplies.
  • Ability to formulate and implement pharmacy policies, methods, specifications and procedures.
  • Ability to provide training to staff members.
  • Ability to evaluate drug therapy against set criteria.
  • Ability to develop program policy manuals, rules and program monitoring methodologies, techniques and plans.
  • Ability to develop and maintain a perpetual inventory control system.
  • Ability to evaluate pharmacy methods, procedures, and services.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to monitor and coordinate clinical pharmacy services such as drug information, disease assessment, and medications management.

Responsibilities

  • The incumbent in this position is expected to become familiar in the Department's reentry initiatives; display leadership skills that demonstrate the Department's commitment to reentry efforts while maintaining a professional demeanor.
  • The incumbent in this position is expected to perform other duties as necessary.
  • The incumbent in this position must spend a minimum of 75 percent of their time performing duties which involve contact with patients/inmates in a correctional or forensic facility or institution.
  • Administers and participates in the compounding and dispensing of pharmaceutical drugs and supplies.
  • Assists in developing and implementing pharmacy policies, methods, and procedures.
  • Assists in the training for pharmacists and pharmacy assistants in the methods and procedures of manufacturing, compounding, and dispensing pharmaceutical products.
  • Assists in developing, implementing, and monitoring a perpetual inventory control system for all pharmacy drugs and materials.
  • Consults with physicians, nurses, and hospital personnel in evaluating the methods, procedures, and services of the pharmacy, and prepares recommendations to the Pharmacy Manager.
  • Participates in staff meetings and conferences.
  • Assists in developing program policy, manuals, and administrative rules.
  • Assists in developing and implementing program monitoring methodologies, techniques, and plans; designs, implements, and monitors program corrective action plans.
  • Evaluates drug therapy with respect to diagnosis, drug dispensing patterns to a given patient population, general and brand name substitution patters, and observation of cost limits customary charge regulations.
  • Consults with health care administrators, physicians, nurses, and others concerning medication and pharmaceutical services standards related to licensure.
  • Adhere to regulatory and company compliance, including OSHA, DEA, State Board of Pharmacy, and Clinical Solutions Code of Conduct, Business Ethics, Policies and Procedures.
