About The Position

The Pharmacist Technician will assist the Pharmacist in preparing and filling daily prescriptions for the inmate population at the Federal Correctional Institute (FCI)/Federal Detention Center (FDC) in Tallahassee, Florida.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • National Background Check with Inquiries and Fingerprints, and Drug Screen.
  • Graduate of an Accredited Pharmacy Technician school or program.
  • Current licensure as a Pharmacy Technician in the State of Florida.
  • Certification in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for Healthcare Providers by the American Heart Association.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician.

Responsibilities

  • Interpreting medical/dental staff prescription orders. These orders may be traditional physical prescriptions or orders taken from entries in the patient's electronic medical file.
  • Entering prescriptions into the pharmacy's prescription computer system and printing prescription labels.
  • Selecting the correct medication and filling the prescriptions.
  • Inventorying medications and supplies, recording items that are low in stocking levels, and advising the Chief Pharmacist and Health Services Administrator of medications that need ordering.
  • Interacting with inmates regarding their medications and providing patient education about the medication.
  • Assisting the medical staff and pharmacist with filling and preparing daily prescriptions for the inmate population at the FCI and FDC.
  • Will, on a routine basis, run the daily pill line and dispense medication as ordered and directed.
  • Ensure that all drugs and supplies are stored according to manufacturers' recommendations, i.e., refrigeration or protection from heat and light.
  • Address any questions and concerns with the Chief Pharmacist.
  • Ensure inmate medication profile is current and up-to-date.
  • Ensure the appropriate sanitation is maintained within the pharmacy.
  • Heavy lifting, prolonged standing, and the climbing of stairs will be required in the performance of duties.
  • Weekly inventory and refill of the Pyxis machines at the FCI and FDC.
  • Other duties as assigned.
