About The Position

This position is eligible for an additional sign-on bonus. Provide pharmacy support services within the on-site health services program and pharmacy in accordance with the contract, applicable detention standards, written health care policies and procedures, state licensure or certification requirements, and patient confidentiality requirements. The role supports safe medication handling, medication supply continuity, health record documentation, and coordination with the supervising pharmacist and authorized medical staff to help ensure patients receive prescribed medications and related pharmacy support services at the facility.

Requirements

  • Must have and maintain an unrestricted and current license as a Pharmacy Technician in the State of Maryland or have the ability to obtain one.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Required to walk unaided at a normal pace for up to 5 minutes and maintain balance.
  • Required to jog/fast walk up to ¼ mile.
  • Requires physical exertion such as lifting objects greater than 30 pounds.
  • Required to perform CPR/emergency care standing or kneeling.
  • Must have the ability to assist sick, injured, or aging patients or staff exiting the building (may require lifting, dragging, wheeling, or carrying someone who weighs significantly more than self).
  • Must be able to see, hear and smell with aids if necessary.
  • Must be able to lift, push, or carry 30 pounds.
  • Must perform the duties of my job in a stressful and often austere environment without physical limitations.
  • Sitting and/or standing for extended periods of time.
  • Average manual dexterity for computer operation.
  • Phone or computer use for extended periods of time.
  • Must maintain current/physical residency in the continental U.S.
  • Pass a medical examination conducted by a licensed physician within 30 days prior to initial assignment.
  • U.S. citizen and have resided in the U.S. for the last five years (unless abroad on official U.S. government duty).
  • Successfully engage in and complete a thorough Background Investigation.
  • Poses or have ability to obtain required security clearances.

  • Proficiency in Spanish is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support on-site pharmacy operations within the health services program, including medication handling and pharmacy support activities required for facility-based medical services.
  • Assist with provision of prescribed medications in accordance with approved facility processes, applicable standards, written policies and procedures, and direction from the supervising pharmacist and authorized medical providers.
  • Support the use of formulary and approved non-formulary medications in accordance with contract requirements and approved authorization processes.
  • Coordinate medication-related activities with the supervising pharmacist, Health Services Administrator, Field Medical Coordinator, network pharmacies, and authorized clinical staff, as applicable to the role.
  • Support continuity of medication supply for patient transfer, release, or removal in accordance with contract requirements and direction from medical staff.
  • Maintain accurate medication-related documentation in the Electronic Health Record and other authorized systems used for health services and pharmacy operations.
  • Protect patient confidentiality and handle medical information in compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, Privacy Act requirements, and other applicable federal and state privacy requirements.
  • Comply with written health care policies and procedures for emergency response, including prompt support during medical emergencies, emergency medical transfer processes, and continuity of care documentation, as assigned within scope.
  • Participate in required initial, annual, and recurring training applicable to medical staff and facility staff, including Basic Life Support, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, automated external defibrillator use, emergency first aid, health-related emergency response, and other contract-required training.
  • Maintain required licensure or certification status, competency, and any credentialing documentation required by the state where services are performed and by the facility.
  • Use the facility’s certified Electronic Health Record system and related information systems in accordance with authorized access, records management, and data security requirements.
  • Support health services compliance, quality assurance activities, inspections, audits, and documentation requests related to pharmacy services and medication management.
  • Work effectively within a secure, multidisciplinary, and culturally responsive care environment and communicate professionally with patients, clinical staff, and other authorized stakeholders.
  • Perform other pharmacy-support duties that are within contract requirements, written procedures, assigned scope, and state licensure or certification limits.
  • Complete required organizational compliance education, including assigned requirements that are client-specified, for Joint Commission Healthcare Staffing Services certification or other regulatory bodies.
