About The Position

The Pharmacy Technician Supervisor provides leadership to Inpatient Technicians. Assists in new technician hiring, orientation, training and performance feedback. Helps ensure compliance with staff licensure, organizational/governmental requirements, and competencies. Continually identifies process improvement opportunities and helps plan implementation. Department: Pharmacy Hours: Full-Time, 40 hours a week

Requirements

  • High School (Required)
  • IL Pharmacy Technician License within in 60 days of hire
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (within 2 years of hire) - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Illinois Pharmacy Technician License (within 60 days of hire) - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation

Responsibilities

  • Assists pharmacists in accurately filling and dispensing prescriptions or medication orders.
  • Collects and verifies patient-specific information (e.g., allergies, insurance, demographics).
  • Counts, labels and packages medications for patient use.
  • Ensures proper labeling, documentation and tracking of all medications dispensed or prepared.
  • Enters and maintains prescription, patient and insurance information: resolves claim rejections.
  • Greets and assists patients with pickups, questions and collecting medication histories.
  • Handles hazardous drugs safely in accordance with USP <800>, using appropriate PPE and equipment.
  • Maintains compliance with laws, regulations and institutional policies (e.g., HIPAA, DEA).
  • Performs required cleaning and environmental monitoring for sterile compounding areas.
  • Prepares non-sterile compounded medications under pharmacist supervision.
  • Prepares sterile compounded products (e.g., IVs, chemo, TPNs) following USP <797> guidelines.
  • Receives, stores and manages medication inventory; checks for expired or recalled products.
  • Supervises and schedules pharmacy technicians to ensure efficient workflow and adequate coverage.
  • Supports pharmacists with clinical and operational tasks to enhance patient care delivery system.
  • Trains, coaches and evaluates technician performance to support quality and regulatory standards.
