About The Position

Under the direct supervision of the Department Business Administrator, the Pharmacy Technician Supervisor (Training and Administrative Assistance) will supervise, direct, coordinate and provide first line administrative and technical functions for the outpatient pharmacy technicians, volunteers, students, and other personnel as directed. The Pharmacy Technician Supervisor works in partnership with the Business Administrator to develop and strategize pharmacy improvement initiative, including projects aimed at meeting departmental and organizational goals. The individual is responsible for the continual refining and advancement of technician training competencies and workflow as technology and new initiatives are implemented. This position oversees and ensures proper training for new employees on Willow Ambulatory, Willow Inventory, Point of Sale system, dispensing automation (Parata Max), FAM/Clinic stock workflows, vaccine administrations, and Meds to Beds processes. This position also assists in refrigeration monitoring to ensure proper temperatures are upheld for patient safety. This position is an upper level technician position in the Department of Pharmacy. The employee in this position must demonstrate leadership and other special skills and knowledge helping to provide administrative and direct oversight of training. This position will assist department leadership in supporting the goals and vision of the service line. The Pharmacy Technician Supervisor will also perform other duties as assigned including, but not limited to, technician scheduling, daily cashier cash deposits and additional assignments as requested by pharmacy leadership. This position will promote staff engagement and great customer service.

Requirements

  • HS/GED plus 4 yrs Pharmacy Tech Experience or Bachelor's Degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences
  • ASHP/ACPE-accredited technician training or certificate program including 1 year supervisory experience
  • Competent in all areas and technician roles
  • Pharmacy Technician License by the Arkansas State Board of Pharmacy
  • National Technician Certification (PTCB)

Responsibilities

  • Interview and hire qualified applicants
  • Orient new hires on job requirements, policies, and work procedures
  • Counsel employees on unsatisfactory performance and work behaviors
  • Administer formal disciplinary actions, up to and including termination
  • Prepare formal performance evaluations
  • Develop work schedules for all retail technicians
  • Help implement changes to the medication specialized computer systems within the Department of Pharmacy
  • Assist with Computer upgrade including testing and training
  • Communicate with other departments, healthcare professionals, and services in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Assist with managing accreditation body activities including Joint Commission, State Board, etc.
  • Communicate information effectively on updates to the pharmacy policies and procedures
  • Assist Pharmacy Manager(s) with special projects
  • Create Training schedules for new technicians
  • Attend and conduct meetings for staff when necessary
  • Cover shifts when needed
  • Ensure proper training for technicians
  • Assist with student training and programs
  • Has exceptional understanding of EPIC Willow Ambulatory and how to navigate
  • Understands and complies with requirements of the 340B program
  • Assists pharmacists with patient outreach and answers phones regularly
  • Communicates professionally and efficiently with patients and other staff
  • Maintains appropriate records and paperwork, electronically and/or paper
  • Delivers medication to employees/patients in a timely and accurate manner
  • Promotes a safe working environment and maintains clean work surfaces in all dispensing areas
  • Complies with all departmental and institutional policies and procedures
  • Documents all cleaning activities and duties on the appropriate log sheets
  • Understands how to operate all equipment (CII safe, Parata Max, Rover, printers, etc)
  • Maintains Parata Max inventory levels, restocking when needed
  • Assists in weekly and monthly duties, such as cycle counts, return to stock drugs and expired drug pulls
  • Promptly reports to supervisor or other appropriate individual if there are any deficiencies or problems with any equipment, facilities, or drug distribution
  • Assists shipping department if needed
  • Helps monitor stock levels in each area, communicating need with the Purchaser
  • Other duties as assigned
