About The Position

This position is for a Certified Registered Technician in Oncology, working 40 hours per week on a day shift from Monday to Friday. The role involves assisting in the preparation of various solutions including intravenous admixtures and chemotherapy using aseptic technique, filling medications for unit dose and Automated Dispensing Machines (ADM), and maintaining inventory levels across different hospital units like OR, Endo, OB, and Oncology. Responsibilities also include delivering pharmaceutical supplies to nursing units, preparing pre-packaged medications, assisting with inventory control, receiving and shelving supplies, performing cycle counts, reviewing stock for expired medications, and cleaning pharmacy equipment and work areas. Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or age or older.
  • Ability to read, write and understand English at the 12th Grade level, follow orders, and written and illustrated instruction.
  • Ability to perform arithmetical computations (adds, subtract, etc.).
  • Must have passed Board of Pharmacy Technician Registration exam; all requirements of Pharmacy Technician Trainee.
  • Must demonstrate competency in all IV admixture processes as confirmed in proficiency exercise as well as sterile procedures.
  • Must have good math, computer, and communication skills.
  • Must have current PTCB certification.
  • Must remain certified (i.e.: continuing education and re-exam as required [staff personal responsibility]), if not re-recertified, has 3 month to become reinstated or will be removed from position.
  • Must be registered by the Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy.
  • Must maintain license from Board of Pharmacy and continuing education requirements for PTCB.
  • Beth Israel Lahey Health requires that all staff be vaccinated against influenza (flu) as a condition of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the preparation of irrigation, intravenous admixture solutions, chemotherapy and other using aseptic technique.
  • Fills unit dose, Automated Dispensing Machines (ADM), stock requisitions and maintain inventory levels in OR, Endo, OB and Oncology.
  • Delivers unit dose, ADM refills, intravenous solution and necessary pharmaceutical supplies to the nursing units.
  • Fills medication labels, subject to final check by a pharmacist.
  • Prepares pre-packaged medications in commonly used quantities.
  • Assists with inventory control of supplies and medications.
  • Receives and shelves supplies and medications.
  • Performs cycle counts and monthly review of stock for expired medications.
  • Cleans pharmacy equipment, utensils and work areas.
