As a Pharmacy Technician - Medication Access at Cleveland Clinic, you'll play a vital role in helping patients manage their medications and maintain adherence to their prescribed therapies. In this unique position, you'll support both the clinical and financial aspects of patient care-assisting with inventory management, prescription processing, patient communication and overall pharmacy operations. Working alongside a collaborative team of pharmacists and technicians, you'll contribute to a supportive, open environment where sharing knowledge and continuous learning are encouraged-all while making a meaningful impact on patients across the Cleveland Clinic system. A caregiver in this role will work rotate through 8 hours shifts from 7:45am-6:15pm.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Six months of related experience OR completion of a Pharmacy Technician Program
  • Upon hire, must be a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcare Association (NHA).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience dealing with third party insurance and prior authorization process
  • Completion of a formal pharmacy technician training program

Responsibilities

  • Communicate directly with patients and caregivers while performing technical functions within the assigned work area to ensure timely and accurate procurement of prescriptions and documentation within the electronic medical record when required.
  • Identify potential medication-related access problems and work with patients and the multi-disciplinary team to solve these problems in an efficient and patient-centered manner.
  • Coordinate education, bedside medication delivery, and medication payment.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure a seamless medication-related procurement process for patients.
  • Work with the pharmacy leadership teams to identify areas of opportunity for improved patient experience.
  • Assist manager in creating, implementing and monitoring quality control programs in assigned area.
  • Conduct third party prior authorization requests when needed.
  • Monitor program performance, including patient volumes served and patient experience indicators, serving as a valued resource to identify discharge prescription coverage issues and assist in their resolution.
  • Complete medication histories or other transitional care activities as assigned per location.
