As a Pharmacy Intern – Medication Access, you will support both inpatient and outpatient services in a hybrid, clinically focused role that emphasizes direct patient interaction. This position involves extensive rounding across Main Campus, working closely with providers, nurses, and care teams including Discharge, Pediatrics, and Transplant to assess insurance coverage, complete medication histories, address prior authorizations, identify cost or access barriers, and ensure medications are available at discharge, including bedside delivery. You will monitor multiple patients per shift and collaborate with a highly engaged team of technicians and leaders in a fast-paced environment centered on patient care. This role offers meaningful clinical exposure, hands-on experience with medication access workflows, and the opportunity to grow within a supportive, team-oriented culture. A caregiver in this role will work every 4th weekend during the school year. During summer break, the schedule transitions to full time with four 10-hour shifts from 8:00am to 6:30pm plus every 4th weekend. This position does not require on-call coverage.

Requirements

  • Enrollment in an accredited College of Pharmacy Program meeting education requirements to qualify for an Intern License in the State of Ohio OR international pharmacy experience meeting the requirements to qualify for the Foreign Graduate Pharmacy Intern License
  • Current State Board of Pharmacy Intern License (PH/INT) before hire
  • Typical physical demands include ability to perform job while standing, reaching, stretching and sitting for prolonged periods; manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer functions of job.
  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
  • You will be required to comply with this program, which will include obtaining an influenza vaccination on an annual basis or obtaining an approved exemption.

Responsibilities

  • Review and assess medication orders to identify, prevent, and resolve potential and actual drug related issues.
  • Recommend formulary alternatives when appropriate.
  • Compound and prepare medications for delivery to patient care areas.
  • Provide drug information and education to medical staff and patients.
  • Communicate with physicians and other clinicians as necessary to facilitate care.
