The Lead Pharmacy Technician role functions as a Pharmacy Technician and is additionally responsibility for assisting the Director of Pharmacy with drug purchasing, drug shortage management, drug recall audits, completion of controlled substance audits, compliance activities, and training and onboarding of technicians.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Recent experience in a hospital or retail pharmacy
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician required
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Effective communications skills; verbal and written English proficiency required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with 340B preferred

Responsibilities

  • Performs daily ordering, monitoring for drug shortages, and transfer of drugs throughout Union as needed.
  • Reviews drug recall notices and evaluates current inventory; notifies staff pharmacist of recalled stock.
  • Ensures adequate technician coverage.
  • Monitors daily performance of technicians to ensure duties are completed accurately, efficiently and timely.
  • Reviews and corrects timesheets, reviews and responds to time off requests and coordinates payroll for the technicians.
  • Evaluates and manages in collaboration with the Director of Pharmacy, the performance of the technicians and conducts verbal and written annual performance evaluations.
  • Assist with controlled substance audit responsibilities include daily controlled substance inventory discrepancy resolution.
  • The Lead Pharmacy Technician supports other pharmacy technicians by providing hands-on training, and coordinating training schedules. The Lead Technician assist the Director of Pharmacy in onboarding new technicians and ensures that the technician staff are trained and competent in variety of pharmacy topics like Union Community Care specific workflows, regulatory compliance, hazardous medications, pharmacy protocols and medication safety.
  • Performs all duties of the Pharmacy Technician.
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
