The inpatient pharmacy technician supports pharmacists in providing pharmacy services. The technician is responsible for packaging, preparation, and distribution of medications, inventory control, customer service and maintaining pharmacy records. As an Inpatient Pharmacy Technician, you will play a vital role in moving medications throughout the facility to enhance patient care. You will join a team that empowers every caregiver to make valuable contributions to patient-focused care, teaching, and research activities. This team embraces a positive attitude and respects and supports one another to provide the best care possible. A caregiver in this position works full time, 8 hour shifts between 6am-11:30pm Monday - Friday with rotating every other weekend. There is potential to float to Mentor Hospital.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Six months of related experience OR completion of a Pharmacy Technician Program
  • Must meet all of the following license and certification combination requirements at the time of application: Must hold an active registration as a Registered Pharmacy Technician through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP).
  • It is required, within 18 months from the date of hire: Must obtain a national certification as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcare Association (NHA) AND Registration as a Certified Pharmacy Technician with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy

  • Understanding of algebraic calculations necessary for the preparation of extemporaneous compounds

Responsibilities

  • Prepare medications through selecting, labeling, repacking, non-sterile compounding and sterile compounding.
  • Deliver medications to the appropriate storage locations in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies and complete inventory audits, such as cycle counts and nursing unit inspections.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules and regulations, and document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities and training.
  • Use information systems, technology and automation to complete assigned tasks.
  • Assist with the training of pharmacy caregivers and students.
