The Pharmacy Technician – Inpatient supports a busy hospital pharmacy located on the second floor of Building C, serving a 256+ bed facility. This role follows a structured workflow, including delivery responsibilities such as transporting medications and refilling Pyxis machines, as well as carousel operations involving medication picking and collaboration with pharmacists. Additional duties include answering phones and supporting overall pharmacy operations, playing an essential indirect role in enhancing patient care and experience. A caregiver in this role will work various shifts, full time Monday through Friday and will rotate every other weekend. Shift times include: 5am-1:30pm, 7am-3:30pm or 11am-7:30pm.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Licensed in Florida as a Registered Pharmacy Technician
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) upon or within 18 months of hire
  • Ability to perform algebraic calculations necessary for the preparation of extemporaneous compounds
  • Basic computer skills

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a formal Pharmacy Technician Training Program
  • Six months of hospital experience
  • Prior outpatient/inpatient experience

Responsibilities

  • Prepare medications through selecting, labeling, repacking, non-sterile compounding and sterile compounding.
  • Deliver medications to the appropriate storage locations in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies and complete inventory audits, such as cycle counts and nursing unit inspections.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules and regulations, and document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities and training.
  • Use information systems, technology and automation to complete assigned tasks.
  • Assist with the training of pharmacy caregivers and students.
