The Inpatient Pharmacy at Hillcrest Hospital supports the full spectrum of hospital services within one of the largest regional hospitals in the area, caring for up to approximately 500 inpatients at a time. Based in a centralized pharmacy located within the hospital, this team also provides support to the Mentor campus pharmacy. The department services all inpatient populations, including specialty and critical care units, neonatal patients, and IV compounding services, managing a wide variety of complex and high-acuity cases. Pharmacy Technicians in this PRN role work within a highly collaborative, workflow-driven environment alongside clinical and operational pharmacists, fellow technicians, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary hospital teams. With a team of 35–40 technicians across all shifts, including specialized roles in IV compounding, neonatal medication calculations, workflow setup, and distribution, technicians receive comprehensive cross-training across pharmacy functions. Responsibilities may include medication preparation and delivery, carousel retrieval, IV room support, sterile compounding assistance (as trained), neonatal dosing calculations, inventory management, and operational workflow support. Technicians play a critical role in ensuring medications are delivered safely, accurately, and on time, while gaining exposure to diverse inpatient cases, specialized neonatal and IV experience, and strong internal career growth opportunities within a supportive, team-oriented culture. This is a PRN role. A caregiver in this position will work a minimum of 4-6 shifts per month and require every other weekend availability. Further requirements include 2 on-call expectations per year and rotating weekend support as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must meet all of the following license and certification combination requirements at the time of application: Must be a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) OR the National HealthCareer Association (NHA) AND it is required to hold an active registration through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP) as either a Certified Pharmacy Technician, Registered Pharmacy Technician, or Pharmacy Technician Trainee.
  • If certified but current status with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP) is Registered Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Trainee it is required to update registration status to a Certified Pharmacy Technician with the OBOP within six months of hire.
  • Please note: A status as a Pharmacy Technician Trainee with OBOP does not qualify for this role.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Provide distributive pharmacy services, assistance and support for the Registered Pharmacist.
  • Refill and maintain automated dispensing systems.
  • Fill medications carts daily.
  • Prepare orders and maintain inventory for the pharmacy department.
  • Repackage bulk medications.
