The basic function of the Pharmacy Technician III is to assist the pharmacist in performing his/her distributive and professional duties. Responsibilities include assisting in the dispensing of drugs, transport and delivery of drugs, repackaging of drugs, charging and crediting of medications, operation and restocking of automated dispensing devices, restocking of medications and non-drug supplies, answering the telephone and responding to staff requests at the inpatient window. All these functions are performed under the supervision, review and approval of a pharmacist. Operation of all automated dispensing and packaging devices both within and outside the pharmacy (patient care areas) for use in the delivery of patient medications Timely delivery of medications to patient care areas and returns to the pharmacy when the patient is discharged, or the medication is no longer needed Works with the Pharmacy Purchasing Associate to maintain an adequate inventory of pharmaceuticals and general supplies Actively participate in all efforts to maintain a safe, clean environment. Communicates effectively with patients, visitors and colleagues. Cooperates with other hospital departments. Ability to work a flexible work schedule based on the needs of the organization

Requirements

  • A High School or GED diploma is required.
  • At least one year of similar experience in another healthcare organization, retail pharmacy or a position which involved comparable or related duties in another service industry.
  • Technician III – Must be a Certified Pharmacy Technician and maintain certification status—Required.
  • Must be able to mentor other pharmacy technicians.
  • Proficiency in at least two (2) Primary Work Areas including, but not limited to: (a) Cart fill (b) Controlled Substances (c) Decentralized Duties (d) IV Room Cleaning and Restocking (e) Inventory Management (f) Purchasing (g) Unit Dose Packaging and Labeling.
  • The ability to push/pull, lift/move 15 lb., be able to perform moderately difficult manual manipulations such as using a keyboard, writing, and filing for extended periods of time, must be able to perform tasks which require hand-eye coordination, such as data entry, typing and using photo copiers.
  • Mobility requirements may include the ability to be stationary at a workstation for a prolonged period of time in addition to being able to squat or be mobile for a reasonable length of time and distance.
  • Communication requirements include the ability to comprehend the spoken English language in addition to being able to communicate and read the English language.

Nice To Haves

  • Academic coursework or experience in the medical science field is preferred but not required.
