Requirements

Completion of an approved vocational Pharmacy Technician training program and at least six months of applicable experience as a Pharmacy Technician; or at least eighteen months of applicable experience as a Pharmacy Technician.
Effectively reads, writes, speaks and understands English.
Proven history of effectively performing technical tasks and following written / verbal instructions.
Able to apply math and calculator skills along with a working knowledge of the metric system.
Possess strong telephone and verbal communication skills.
Experience with the use of office software computer applications and keyboarding.
Demonstrated ability to work in a busy environment and pay attention to detail.
Proven organizational and problem solving skills.
Proven ability to effectively work both independently and in a team environment.
No history of drug abuse or misuse; or proof of successful completion of a certified drug abuse rehabilitation program is required.
Current registration with the Board of Pharmacy where required by state regulation.
National Pharmacy Technician Certification

Nice To Haves

Completion of post-secondary education preferred.
Experience in medication diversion detection and prevention.
Knowledge and understanding of medication and controlled substances laws at the federal, state and local level (e.g.
Board of Pharmacy, Drug Enforcement Agency).
Familiarity with JCAHO Medication Management Standards.
Previous experience in trending and analyzing data.

Responsibilities

Assists the pharmacist in providing optimal pharmaceutical care to the patient.
Handles, manages and distributes controlled substances in compliance with regulatory requirements and department policies; and assists with drug diversion surveillance.
Accurately performs the duties of a Tech-Check-Tech Pharmacy Technician if qualified.
Assists with training new pharmacy staff.
Assists with maintaining accurate medication inventories and billing of medications.
Effectively communicates utilizing established systems and processes.
Performs responsibilities and duties of the job in a manner that is attentive to age and ability considerations.
Conducts activities and tasks to effectively implement and maintain the medication diversion surveillance program.
Participates in the investigation process of suspected medication diversion incidents.
Provides support for the Drug Diversion Response Team.
Participates in continuous improvement, education and planning activities.
Performs other miscellaneous activities, as assigned.
