Requirements

  • Completion of an approved vocational Pharmacy Technician training program and at least six months of applicable experience as a Pharmacy Technician; or at least eighteen months of applicable experience as a Pharmacy Technician.
  • Effectively reads, writes, speaks and understands English.
  • Proven history of effectively performing technical tasks and following written / verbal instructions.
  • Able to apply math and calculator skills along with a working knowledge of the metric system.
  • Possess strong telephone and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with the use of office software computer applications and keyboarding.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a busy environment and pay attention to detail.
  • Proven organizational and problem solving skills.
  • Proven ability to effectively work both independently and in a team environment.
  • No history of drug abuse or misuse; or proof of successful completion of a certified drug abuse rehabilitation program is required.
  • Current registration with the Board of Pharmacy where required by state regulation.
  • National Pharmacy Technician Certification

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of post-secondary education preferred.
  • Experience in medication diversion detection and prevention.
  • Knowledge and understanding of medication and controlled substances laws at the federal, state and local level (e.g.
  • Board of Pharmacy, Drug Enforcement Agency).
  • Familiarity with JCAHO Medication Management Standards.
  • Previous experience in trending and analyzing data.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the pharmacist in providing optimal pharmaceutical care to the patient.
  • Handles, manages and distributes controlled substances in compliance with regulatory requirements and department policies; and assists with drug diversion surveillance.
  • Accurately performs the duties of a Tech-Check-Tech Pharmacy Technician if qualified.
  • Assists with training new pharmacy staff.
  • Assists with maintaining accurate medication inventories and billing of medications.
  • Effectively communicates utilizing established systems and processes.
  • Performs responsibilities and duties of the job in a manner that is attentive to age and ability considerations.
  • Conducts activities and tasks to effectively implement and maintain the medication diversion surveillance program.
  • Participates in the investigation process of suspected medication diversion incidents.
  • Provides support for the Drug Diversion Response Team.
  • Participates in continuous improvement, education and planning activities.
  • Performs other miscellaneous activities, as assigned.
