The Pharmacy Technician – Community, PRN supports a fast-paced outpatient pharmacy environment averaging approximately 400 prescriptions per day and serves as a key member of a highly collaborative, patient-facing team at Cleveland Clinic. Caregivers in this role work closely with pharmacists, fellow technicians, and patients while rotating through all pharmacy functions, including prescription typing and filling, customer service, phone support, and inventory management. With weekly rotation across workstations and shared responsibility for daily task completion, this position offers strong cross-training, a team-based culture, and an excellent entry opportunity into Cleveland Clinic’s ambulatory pharmacy operations. This is a PRN role. A caregiver in this position works primarily 10-hour shifts (with limited 8-hour shifts available) in a pharmacy that operates Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and is closed on weekends. While weekend and holiday shifts are not required at this location, caregivers can pick up additional shifts at other pharmacy sites as needed, typically averaging three to four supplemental shifts per month depending on availability. A caregiver who excels in this role will: Follow established policies and procedures to support functions essential to the operations of the pharmacy department. Perform packaging, preparation, and distribution of medications, inventory control, customer service, and maintaining pharmacy records. Pursue completion of the Cleveland Clinic’s School of Pharmacy Technology program in the first 12 months of employment. Prepare medications (selection, labeling, repackaging and non-sterile compounding). Deliver medications to the appropriate storage locations. Maintain accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies. Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations. Document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities, and training in an accurate and timely manner. Appropriately use information systems, technology, and automation to complete assigned tasks. Maintain good standing in the Cleveland Clinic School of Pharmacy Technology program per the student handbook.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or GED
  • Can perform algebraic calculations necessary for the preparation of extemporaneous compounds.
  • Basic computer skills
  • Must meet all of the following license and certification combination requirements at the time of application: Must hold an active registration as a Registered Pharmacy Technician through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP).
  • It is required, within 18 months from the date of hire: Must obtain a national certification as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcare Association (NHA) AND Registration as a Certified Pharmacy Technician with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy
