The Pharmacy Technician II supports pharmacists in delivering high-quality pharmaceutical care across various Carilion Clinic settings. This role specifically involves obtaining accurate medication histories from patients in the fast-paced Emergency Department, entering and updating data into the computer system, using automated medication dispensing equipment, and assisting and supporting pharmacists in patient pharmaceutical care.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Registration with the Virginia Department of Health Professionals required.
- Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Certification relevant to work area is required within 6 months of hire.
- Must be able to maintain familiarity with a large number (1000-2000) of medications and focused on attention to detail/accuracy.
- Must be customer service oriented.
- Requires knowledge and use of general office equipment and procedures, including computer/keyboard.
- Must be able to solve simple mathematical and logistical problems in the work environment.
- Must be able to effectively budget time, work efficiently and accurately, and follow procedures with minimum supervision.
Nice To Haves
- Previous pharmacy work experience is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Review and update the patient's medication records for pharmacist review and physician ordering.
- Maintains accurate documentation.
- Uses Automated Medication Dispensing Equipment to stock medications in the Emergency Department, maintain accurate inventory levels, and assist nursing in the removal and reconciliation of medication discrepancies.
- Maintains pharmacy records for regulatory compliance.
- Supports medication safety committees and reporting systems.
- Support medication access and affordability through patient advocacy, financial coordination, and assistance program facilitation.
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely medication delivery, accurate documentation, and high-quality patient service.
