About The Position

Under the guidance and supervision of a licensed Pharmacist(s) and following all Federal and State regulations, manages operational responsibilities for the Swisslog Robotic Equipment, including inventory management, training, preventative maintenance and facilitates necessary communication. Prepares and distributes medications and maintains drug inventory and patient records.

Requirements

  • Education equivalent to graduation from high school or GED is required.
  • Possesses a current State of Illinois Technician license.
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board-(PTCB) or the Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT) is required by the second pharmacy technician license renewal except for:
  • Pharmacy technicians who obtained initial licensure prior to January 1, 2008.
  • Pharmacy students enrolled in an accredited school of pharmacy.
  • One (1) year Robot Technician experience required.
  • Possesses a highly-developed problem solving ability to work through complex situations.
  • Understands technical complexities of the department and uses this knowledge to adapt to and work in any situation.
  • Possesses the ability and desire to train, (as defined by department standards) and develop lesser-experienced pharmacy technicians. Imparts both didactic content as well as models behavioral standards for trainees.
  • Demonstrates excellent oral and written communication, problem solving, basic math, and customer relations skills.
  • Demonstrates basic computer knowledge, with the ability to operate keyboard and mouse and access and store information into an electronic database.

  • Demonstrates commitment to safety in all elements of daily practice.
  • Ability to push, pull, and transport up to 50 lbs. and stand/walk for long periods of time.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years Pharmacy Technician experience at Memorial Medical Center strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs advanced Pharmacy Technician duties within the Pharmacy (or other applicable area), either at a fixed or rotating workstation or schedule approved by management. Applies highly developed knowledge and niche expertise of specialty products, medical compositions, and processes relating to new or complex drugs or other formularies.
  • Provides exceptional training for lesser-experienced staff members as needed. Serves as a mentor to all new pharmacy technicians and serves as a role model for all staff.
  • Identifies areas for process improvement and makes recommendations to management for approval.
  • Ensures the timely and accurate dispensing of medications from the Robot.
  • Performs routine maintenance and ensures “disabled pins” and “locations with errors” are checked and cleared regularly by all Robot Technicians.
  • Provides great communication regarding process changes and current issues, to other Robot Technicians or all Pharmacy staff to ensure continuity of maximum Robot performance.
  • Monitors “soon to expire” medications in the Drug Nest and Boxpicker and proactively removes these items to avoid complete stock outs. Advises Receiving Technicians and other interested parties of depletion or low levels of critical medications and supplies. Inventories and maintains the appropriate levels of supplies, replenishing as necessary.
  • Adheres to all necessary sanitation and sterility requirements in preparing, filling, labeling, and distributing medication and related supplies.
  • Maintains compliance with federal and state requirements for record keeping of ALL electronic and paper pharmacy documents.
  • Demonstrates safety in ALL aspects of work including patient safety, compliance with policy and procedures that insure employee safety, compliance with OSHA standards for handling hazardous substances, compliance with USP standards. Incorporates the Memorial Health System Behavioral Standards into daily practice.
  • Performs other related work as required or requested.
