About The Position

Participates in a twelve-month learning experience through the various services of the Department of Pharmacy to learn, develop and practice the skills necessary to fulfill a distinguished professional career as a health system pharmacist.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited School of Pharmacy with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree required.
  • Registration with the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy expected within four weeks of beginning the Residency Program.

  • Previous hospital experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to the general hospital standards to promote a cooperative work environment by utilizing communication skills, interpersonal relationships and team building.
  • Completes required rotations in Practice Management, Drug Information, and Ambulatory Care to develop knowledge and skills specific to these areas of practice.
  • Completes elective rotations in various practice care areas to gain comprehensive knowledge and experience in hospital pharmacy practice.
  • Learns to fulfill the responsibilities of a staff pharmacist by working in the inpatient pharmacy.
  • Completes research and drug evaluation projects.
  • Documents activities to provide information needed to meet standards, regulations, laws and/or other administrative requirements.
  • Updates knowledge and skills of self and other health care professionals to promote continuous learning and quality improvement.
  • Participates in the team approach to quality improvement to support the Pharmacy Department's commitment to the philosophy and principles of Total Quality.
  • Participates in planning processes by establishing personal goals to facilitate residency training and contribute to the achievement of departmental and residency program objectives.
  • Provides age/developmental appropriate patient care in accordance with Age/Developmental Specific Guidelines for the age groups served when participating in patient care.
