Job Summary Summary The Pharmacy Intern YR1 supports the mission of the Pharmacy department by ensuring that the right patient receives the right medication in a safe and timely manner under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist. Develops a full understanding of the drug distribution system and demonstrates competency in carrying out all duties associated with delivering medications to the patient care areas. Uses related computer software, gains experience in the interpretation, verification, order entry, compounding, and dispensing of pharmaceuticals and pharmaceutical supplies. The Pharmacy Intern may also be involved in the dissemination of drug information. Does this position require Patient Care? No

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree Pharmacy/Pharmaceutical Studies required
  • Pharmacy Intern [State License] - Generic - HR Only required
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification [CPhT] - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) required
  • Pharmacy Experience 0-1 year preferred
  • Ability to learn computer and application skills as applicable to role.
  • Ability to interact with and work around people.
  • Ability to make judgments in demanding situations.
  • Ability to react to frequent changes in duties and volume of work.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to listen empathetically.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in interdisciplinary rounds.
  • Work collaboratively with the treatment team to maximize individual patient outcomes.
  • Counsel patients on prescription and over-the-counter medications and devices.
  • Monitor medication therapies through performing profile reviews, interpreting laboratory values, and ensuring drug regimens are consistent with medication use guidelines and protocols.
  • Assist Pharmacist in gathering information to advise nurses, doctors, and patients on the proper and safe use of medications.
  • Fill and deliver medications requested by nursing units and as needed for the Pyxis automated dispensing machine after complete check by a registered pharmacist.
  • Perform good customer service skills via telephone or in person at the Pharmacy window and while rounding on patient care areas.
  • Adhere to HIPAA regulations regarding confidentiality and patient privacy.
