About The Position

PLEASE BE ADVISED this position is covered by the collective bargaining agreement between Cook County and TEAMSTERS 743. Pursuant to the collective bargaining agreement. Cook County will exhaust internal eligible applicants prior to considering external applicants. LOCATION: Provident Hospital JOB TITLE: Pharmacy Technician SHIFT: 1:00 PM - 9:00 PM or 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM (Weekend Rotation) Salary is commensurate with years of experience indicated at time of application submittal. Experience not disclosed or documented at the time of application will not be considered for initial step placement. JOB SUMMARY TEAMSTERS LOCAL 743 Under supervision, provides pharmaceutical care to all areas of Pharmacy Services including Inpatient and Outpatient services.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent, is required. (Must provide proof at time of Interview)
  • Licensure as a pharmacy technician in the State of Illinois, is required. (Must provide proof at time of Interview)
  • One (1) year of full-time work experience in a hospital as a Pharmacy Technician, is required.
  • Must hold active certification from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) program or Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT), is required. (Must provide proof at time of Interview)
  • Must demonstrate the ability to type at a corrected rate of 15 words per minute, is required. (Typing test may be administered)

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual skills in English and Spanish, is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Gathers and delivers medications to/from patient care units
  • Fills and prepares Pyxis for patient specific medication needs
  • Prepares intravenous admixtures, including chemotherapeutic agents
  • Prepares stock requisitions and places stock in proper storage locations
  • Returns medications to stock
  • Rotates and inspects medications for expiration dates
  • Receives medications from the storeroom or outside delivery
  • Fills orders for par-stock replenishment, as needed
  • Prepares extemporaneous solutions and/or ointments, as needed
  • Prepares medications for unit-dose distributions
  • Answers and screens telephone calls for pharmacist, as needed
  • Troubleshoots problems related to Pyxis stations
  • Performs documentations, as instructed
  • Performs other duties as assigned
