About The Position

The Pharmacy Intern YR3 supports the mission of the Pharmacy Department by helping ensure patients receive the right medication in a safe and timely manner under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist. This role develops a comprehensive understanding of the drug distribution system and demonstrates competency in medication delivery to patient care areas. Responsibilities include using pharmacy software systems and gaining hands-on experience in medication interpretation, verification, order entry, compounding, and dispensing. The Pharmacy Intern may also assist with the dissemination of drug information.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree Pharmacy/Pharmaceutical Studies required
  • Pharmacy Intern [State License] - Generic - HR Only required
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification [CPhT] - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) required
  • Pharmacy Experience 2-3 years required
  • Ability to learn computer and application skills as applicable to role.
  • Ability to interact with and work around people.
  • Ability to make judgments in demanding situations.
  • Ability to react to frequent changes in duties and volume of work.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to listen empathetically.
  • Ability to logically organize details.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in interdisciplinary rounds.
  • Works collaboratively with the treatment team to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Performs medication history interviews, first-dose teaching, food-drug interaction counseling, discharge counseling, and assessment of patient education and adherence.
  • Creates and updates medication lists for patients at discharge or at the conclusion of clinic appointments.
  • Counsels patients on prescription and over-the-counter medications and medical devices.
  • Monitors medication therapies by performing profile reviews, interpreting laboratory values, and ensuring medication regimens align with established guidelines and protocols.
