About The Position

Under the general direction of the Associate Director Pharmacy reviews inventory and independently orders and maintains appropriate stocking levels. Reviews, processes, and accounts pharmaceutical supplies to other hospital departments and to physician practices. Reviews and audits pharmaceutical charges for accuracy. Audits controlled substance documentation for accuracy and collects and reports data. Assumes the role of Pharmacy Technician when assigned. Job Description Essential Functions: Meets all standards of the Patient Satisfaction Initiative Criteria in order to make Abington – Jefferson Health (AJH) the hospital of choice for Patients and Employees. Maintains and manages Pharmacy inventory to insure an adequate medication supply to meet the needs of the patient population. Procures medications on a just in time basis to insure inventory cost control as well as inventory availability. Tracks and trends backorders and product shortages, identifies alternatives and maintains a running communication to keep staff informed. Places backorders to the wholesalers and manufacturers to ensure product availability. Implements and maintains purchasing guidelines to maximize inventory management, compliance with national and local pharmaceutical vendors and distributors. Monitors wholesaler contract compliance and service level while holding vendors accountable. Ensures timeliness and accuracy in receiving pharmaceuticals and processing invoices. Prepares and supervises physical inventories. Purchases medications according to best price or best contract price, and ensures contract items are ordered even when stocked out in addition to available substitutes. Double checks incoming inventory and updates bar code data base for KBMA with new items. Works with Associate Director to address drug shortages on an ongoing basis. Maintains an adequate supply of Emergency medications, antidotes, blood products, and medications in short supply. Assists with the orientation and training of backup purchasing technicians and the training and orientation of new personnel to Pharmacy with regards to purchasing procedures. Assume the function of the Pharmacy Technician when needed. Performs IV Admixture/pharmacy compounding when assigned. Collects data, completes narcotic audits and reports of compliance, documents closed loop on purchase orders, conducts inspections, and maintains data logs and other documentation as assigned. Supports the Associate Director of Pharmacy in auditing narcotic documentation accuracy and reporting discrepancies on an ongoing basis. Processes requisitions for pharmaceutical supplies, issues all necessary purchase orders for all pharmaceutical items. Processes and charges orders for pharmaceuticals generated by hospital owned Physician practices directed through Lansdale Hospital. Performs various billing functions to ensure proper crediting of all medications dispensed to patients to ensure compliance with the hospital’s financial policies. Audits billing from all areas to ensure accuracy, corrects omissions, and credits inappropriate charges. Audits pharmaceutical charges to patient’s accounts to ensure accuracy of medications charged and compliance with the hospital’s financial policies. Reviews and captures missing charges for patients by review of automated reports and the medical record. Performs all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of pharmacy technician experience
  • 1+ years of experience with purchasing and inventory control
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (PTCB)
  • Computer skills, including Excel, Word, and online programs.

  • Experience handling of controlled substances is preferred.
