About The Position

This position is for a Pharmacist on a PRN (as needed) basis. The role involves a wide range of pharmacy responsibilities, including interpreting and evaluating prescriptions for precision and safety, preparing and dispensing medications, and verifying that prescriptions adhere to all regulatory requirements. The Pharmacist is also responsible for validating insurance claims, managing medication inventory, and maintaining accurate records of medication and patient profiles. Collaboration with medical staff to ensure correct medication orders and providing consultations to patients and staff are key aspects. The role requires ensuring compliance with the Alabama State Board of Pharmacy and other regulatory bodies, as well as performing administrative duties. Additionally, the Pharmacist is expected to maintain pharmacy security, seek supervision, accept feedback, enhance skills, communicate professionally, and document promptly and accurately. The position emphasizes courteous and respectful interaction with patients, visitors, and co-workers, treating them with care, dignity, and compassion, and respecting privacy and confidentiality. The Pharmacist must also adhere to regulations from the Board of Pharmacy, DEA, and other governing bodies, complete required annual training, and participate in Performance Improvement activities.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school of pharmacy
  • Possession of an active license to practice pharmacy in the state of Alabama
  • Two years of experience in the practice of pharmacy
  • Knowledge of psychiatric disorders
  • Knowledge of pharmacy standards and protocols
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology
  • Knowledge of Cultural Diversity
  • Knowledge of psychopharmacology and the use of psychotropic medications

Responsibilities

  • Interprets and evaluates prescription orders received for precision and safety.
  • Prepares and dispenses medications according to a valid order received from a proper licensed provider.
  • Verifies prescriptions filled are exact and adhere to all regulatory requirements.
  • Validates that prescription insurance claims process correctly and adhere to the auditing requirements set forth by insurance companies.
  • Aids in keeping proficient inventory of medications.
  • Keeps exact records of medication and patient profiles, supplying precise documentation when applicable.
  • Proficient use of pharmacy software system(s) and pharmacy equipment.
  • Works efficiently with medical staff to ensure medication orders prescribed are correct and helps with questions when needed.
  • Ensures pharmacy works in compliance with the Alabama State Board of Pharmacy, and other regulatory and certification bodies.
  • Supplies consultation to patients and staff.
  • Performs administrative duties related to the pharmacy and pharmacy technicians.
  • Maintain the security of the pharmacy and its contents.
  • Seeks supervision and consultation as needed.
  • Accepts and employs suggestions for improvement.
  • Actively works to enhance skills.
  • Communicates issues and/or concerns in a professional manner.
  • Documents in a prompt fashion and per policy and procedures.
  • Documentation shows that forms, notes, logs, and other applicable written information completed promptly, accurately and updated when appropriate.

  • Follows AltaPointe and pharmacy policies and procedures.
  • Attends to required in-service training and other workshops as necessary.
