About The Position

Summary: The OP Pharmacist reviews, evaluates and verifies prescriptions for appropriateness of dose, route, interval, schedule and duration. Corrects significant drug-allergy, drug-drug, drug-disease, or drug-food interactions. Consults with licensed independent practitioners about outpatient prescription issues and documents interventions in medication therapy. Prepares and checks medication and answers drug information questions.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Pharm D Degree is required.
  • Licensure: Current License by the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy is required.
  • Possesses a valid State driver's license and ability to obtain and maintain insurability as determined by the ACH insurance carrier's requirements.
  • An annual physical is required to be completed with the Akron Children's Hospital Employee Health Department.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in pediatrics/hospital pharmacy is preferred, but not required.
  • Proficiency in MS Office [Outlook, Excel, Word] or similar software is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Epic Willow Pharmacy software is preferred.
  • Certification: Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS) or Board Certified Pediatric Pharmacy Specialist (BCPPS) Certification is preferred.
  • A Post Graduate Year 1 Pharmacy (PGY1) Residency is preferred.
  • Years of relevant experience: 2 years is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Reviews and verifies outpatient prescriptions.
  • Evaluates prescriptions for appropriateness of dose, route, interval, schedule and duration.
  • Corrects significant drug-allergy drug-drug, drug-disease, or drug-food interactions.
  • Consults with licensed independent practitioners and documents interventions in medication therapy.
  • Ensures prescriptions meet Ohio legal requirements before dispensing.
  • Ensures prescriptions are typed, counted, labeled and dispensed correctly.
  • Verifies work performed by pharmacy technicians is correct.
  • Responsible for accuracy of Controlled Substance Inventory.
  • Provides drug information and patient counseling.
  • Assists nurses and physicians with prescription issues.
  • Reconciles all patient insurance issues prior to prescription filling.
  • Compounds oral liquid solutions/suspensions and topical medication using appropriate standard operating procedures.
  • Other duties as required.
