About The Position

The Pharmacist I - Staff Pharmacist is responsible for performing a range of distributive and operational duties to ensure the safe and effective use of medications within the hospital. This position supports core pharmacy functions, including order verification, medication dispensing, sterile product preparation, and medication inventory management. The Pharmacist I provides drug information to healthcare providers, ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, and contributes to departmental quality and safety initiatives. This role is primarily based in the central pharmacy and may include limited clinical responsibilities as assigned. Core Job Responsibilities Medication Verification and Dispensing: Accurately interprets and verifies medication orders, ensuring appropriateness of dose, route, frequency, and therapeutic indication. Dispenses medications in accordance with established policies and procedures, maintaining accuracy and efficiency. Prepares and labels medications for dispensing, including unit dose medications, IV admixtures, and controlled substances. Patient Monitoring: Monitors patient medication profiles for drug interactions, allergies, and contraindications. Identifies and resolves drug-related problems. Drug Information: Provides drug information and consultation to physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. Researches and answers drug information inquiries. Sterile Compounding: Adheres to USP and guidelines for sterile compounding, including proper garbing, aseptic technique, and environmental monitoring. Prepares sterile IV admixtures and other compounded sterile products accurately and safely. Participates in the maintenance and cleaning of the cleanroom and compounding equipment. Central Pharmacy Operations: Assists with inventory management and ordering of pharmaceuticals. Receives and stores incoming medications and supplies. Participates in quality improvement initiatives and medication safety programs. Maintains a clean and organized work environment. Other Responsibilities: Adheres to all New York State and federal regulations governing pharmacy practice, including those outlined in the Education Law and Part 63 of the Commissioner's Regulations. Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited college of pharmacy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Current pharmacist license in good standing in New York State.
