Requirements

  • Certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board
  • High School Diploma Or Equivalent
  • 1 Year Hospital Experience Or 2 Years Retail

Responsibilities

  • Medications issued from the pharmacy must be admixed correctly. The following step must be adhered to: oThe Technician calls for an RPh to verify the active ingredient(s) / diluent prior to the drug(s) being added to the IV bag.
  • Set up, package, dispense and deliver unit/multi-dose medication in accordance with standard procedures and techniques; mix prescribed drugs with intravenous solutions and prefill syringes under supervision of a pharmacist.
  • Replenish drugs and other pharmaceutical supplies on patient care units; keep records on narcotics and control drug distribution.
  • Set up, prepare and package standard bulk formulations as directed.
  • Stock supplies and assist in taking inventory.
  • Retrieve discontinued or expired medications from stock & patient care areas; discard or return to stock as appropriate, complete corresponding documentation.
  • Serve as a training resource for new technicians & assist in evaluating their progress as directed.
  • Assist in documentation of performance improvement activities under Pharmacists' direction & review.
  • Assist other technicians in performing procedures & completing tasks.
  • Respond appropriately to phone inquires and follow up appropriately. For example, taking small phone when leaving department to stock Omnicells or other tasks.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
  • Meet 797 annual requirements sufficiently and in a timely manner.
  • Scans barcodes into Paragon before new medications are added to pharmacy stock.
  • Barcodes must be scanned into Omnicell before medications may be added to Omnicells.
