About The Position

The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) is dedicated to protecting and promoting

Richmond and 35 local health districts.

The Richmond and Henrico Health District is currently seeking 2 Public Health
Nurses. Our PH Nurses work in program areas such as Immunization, Family
Planning, STI, Communicable Disease, and may do home visits. This is a
multi-fill posting and each position will work out of one of our three
locations- East Henrico Health Clinic (1400 N Laburnum), West Henrico Health
Clinic (8600 Dixon Powers Drive) or Richmond Health Clinic (400 E. Cary St), but
may be expected to work from any other location in the community as needed.
Standard work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm (occasional evening
and weekend hours based on community events). Mileage reimbursement is available
for any work-related travel.

Requirements

• Requires licensure as an RN in Virginia or compact state. If a new graduate, must obtain RN license within 90 days of the date of hire or subject to termination per the regulations governing the practice of nursing. Requires BLS certification. Re-quires adherence to all safety policies including a review of immunizations, driver safety policies and all other state policies.
• Communicates verbally and in writing, to analyze problems, situations and suggest solutions, leadership, follow directions and establish priorities
• Skills in physical examination, health assessment, and interviewing and counseling technique
• Ability to function independently, prioritize and organize work, solve problems, adapt to change, function as a team member and relate to the public
• Knowledge of public health concepts, principles of public health nursing, principles of epidemiology; immunizations; basic nursing science, medical terminology, case management
• May travel and some weekend and/or evening hours may be required
• Must be certified in Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR

Nice To Haves

• Additional study in health promotion/or public health is preferred
• Experience in a public health setting or one related to disease prevention and health promotion
